Anyone into em?

Dave - 1-15-2008 at 05:54 PM

about time we had another Comic Book post

seems like every 6 months we have one!

i read lots of book, love em!

i can see from your avatar that you must like Mike mignola stuff...

XHonusWagnerX - 1-15-2008 at 06:48 PM

I definitly like them, but theres not that much that I read anymore. I was WAY into Strangers in Paradise, but that ended. Im reading Marvel Zombies, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Liberty Meadows (whenever it comes out) and Im going to start the new Hulk that came out last week.

bombidol - 1-15-2008 at 07:17 PM

comics are pretty much what I do these days. I'm doing a try out for Marvel at the moment, and I have some of my own stuff due out this year. Yeah im a mignola fanatic. My whole leg is covered in mignola tattoos.
New hulk is shit, as is all Jeph Loeb stuff recently The fool hasn't realized its not the 90's anymore.

sippers - 1-15-2008 at 07:52 PM

i've slowed down a bit of late.all the shit i want now is high end stuff spiderman 129 and hulk 181.then my bronze age 1st appearances will be complete.as of new i picked up the new hulk have'nt read it yet,and im currently into ultimates 3.i'm so glad to see joe madueria back in the comic world...

bombidol - 1-15-2008 at 08:17 PM

Joe Mad is cool but this is the wrong title for him. He needs to be on spiderman and nothing else. ultimates 3 is so bad though

Dave - 1-15-2008 at 08:18 PM

i never got into the hulk at all, not sure why............

how the condition of your bronze age stuff?

here are a few of the books, i'm enjoying as of late:

The Spirit
The Goon
Criminal
The Sword
Walking Dead
The Phantom
Catwoman
Amazing Spider-Man
Batman
Detective Comics
Hellboy
Madman
Y The Last Man

and the list goes on from there.........

bombidol - 1-15-2008 at 08:22 PM

the goon is always amazing.
Y the last man has wavered a lot in the last 10 or so issues, it should have finished a year ago but its still quality. I try and stay away from a lot of super hero stuff (which is funny as I might have work at marvel at some stage this year) just because a lot of it is pure fucking production line stuff just to make up numbers.
Walking dead is great but reads much better in collected form. Criminal is great but Brubaker might be stretching himself at the moment.
Hellboy is always fucking worth reading but I REALLY want to see Mignola back on pencils and inks.

XHonusWagnerX - 1-15-2008 at 09:08 PM

I want the new Hulk because I love Ed McGuiness art work.

Dave - 1-15-2008 at 10:46 PM

I woouldn't mind seeing your work as well.

Voodoobillyman - 1-16-2008 at 01:03 AM

All I read is The Goon. I just finished Chinatown and the mystery of Mr. Wicker. So good, and not expecting it to be THAT serious. Shows Powell can step away from the humor and write a solid fucking story, He replaced sam Kieth as my all time favorite comic artist too, He really stepped it up for this book. I was kind of dissapointed with the sloppiness exhibited in #19, but realize it was a quick push due to his other obligations. I literaly got a hard on when I found out DH was publishing the series on amonthly basis now. I can't say enough about this book and it's creator. I also collect Goon shit, the Bowen statues and Mezco toys are so fucking cool! Before this I hadn't touched comics in years, I lost interest after the Maxx ended and Kieth went even deeper into his womens empowerment trip. Powell replaced Kieth as my all time favorite and is single handedly responsible for getting me back into comics. Now, before Kieth I was on a Vigil kick, first Faust, then I strted to reach back into Grips and some of his early stuff. As far as actual super hero shit, I still swear ny the X-men of the late eighties early nineties, that was good story telling and solid artwork. For those of you with a sick sense of humor and a small poenchant for senseless violence, I can't recommend the Goon enough. Oh yeah, tales from the Crypt was just released, I forget the publisher, but I picked up the first issue before I shipped out and it wasn't bad, I may look into that series if it isn't already dead, when I get back. Bombidol, definitely want to see some of your work, post it up bro!

bombidol - 1-16-2008 at 05:30 AM

Sam Keith is probably my favourite artist ever along with Mignola.

Bear in mind gents that I write, I CAN draw but I dont have the time to polish it to an industry standard.

But heres some pages of something I wrote thats due out this year.
It's in full color but I'm waiting on the colorist to finish up so we can sent it on to the letterer.

The story follows a regular working class Joe from Dublin who is involved in a drunken car crash only to have his soul transferred into a corpse so he can hunt religious relics for a renegade angel. So basically its a drunk Irish zombie roaming the earth indiana jones style. Its a mix of stuff like Hellboy, Goon, Preacher etc but from a different standpoint.

These Images arent the greatest quality but its all I have to hand.

A few images from a comic called "Thorne" we were working on. The artist disappeared so I dunno whats going to happen.

And the cover by Wegener, who back then was pretty much unknown but now is the artist on Punisher War Journal. Hes awesome.

Theres a shit load more due out. We have a title called "Legion of 2" which follows 2 US soldiers who get stranded on an pacific island during the war. We catch up with them in the late 70's and they have fortified the island thinking the war is still on.
Then a business who have bought said island to turn it into a hotel resort show up. Trouble ensues.

Another called "Presidential" which is a cross between OZ and The West Wing. What would happen if the president killed everyone in the whitehouse and got sent to a max security prision. Its going to be fucking fun.

Theres more, but these are the ones in development. I write or co write/plot all of these. Character design etc too.

Dave - 1-16-2008 at 08:07 AM

wicked i'd love to read some, are they available over here?

side note, Eric Powell is fucking awesome, hell i even had to buy the three issues of Action Comics he just did this fall, just so i can get some more of his work.

bombidol - 1-16-2008 at 08:37 AM

Yeah I got that Bizzaro arc too. Yeah they will be available in all comic stores when they are finished. You might have to ask them to order them in though, but in theory all the good stores should have em. I think Mark Millar is writing an introduction for us.

let me know when they it will be available, and i'll get my buddy to order it in for me, (he owns a comic shop), and if you know what issue of previews it will be in would help as well.

bombidol - 1-16-2008 at 07:26 PM

Will keep you informed man. Probably going to be later this year as the coloring is taking forever.

sippers - 1-20-2008 at 11:33 AM

had a major score on the comics this weekend.werewolf by night almost a complete run 4-43 minus the moon knight issues all vf/nm and special marvel edition 15-16(1st master of kung fu)master of kung fu 17-21.all for the grand price of 6.37 i had to put my poker face on at the counter..helluva day

bombidol - 1-20-2008 at 12:30 PM

Excellent. I love those finds. I was at this dirt mall in detroit last year and they were selling ALL the comics for 25 cents each. Picked up some original Jack Kirby stuff and some amazing old ninja turtles etc.

DaveMoral - 1-20-2008 at 01:45 PM

I'm reading Star Wars Legacy and Knights of the Old Republic right now mostly. Getting into the other two SW titles that Dark Horse has too, for their big timeline crossover Vector.

I'm getting back into Batman and stuff, so I just recently picked up the Hush TPBs. Good stuff. Jim Lee's art is amazing. I was heartbroken in 1992 when he left X-Men to do his Image stuff. Anyone read the DC All-Star line? Frank Miller's Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder with Jim Lee on art. It's in continuity with Batman: Year One and The Dark Knight Returns. There's a Superman one too, but I'm not all that into Supes.

bombidol - 1-20-2008 at 01:52 PM

The superman one (all star superman) is excellent and I pretty much hate superman.

DaveMoral - 1-21-2008 at 07:57 PM

Dave, what do you think of the All-Star Joker?

Dave - 1-21-2008 at 08:34 PM

i haven't had time to read the last issue yet, i'm alittle behind, with school and working, i'll get to it tonight or tomorrow.

was it good?

Dave - 1-22-2008 at 07:28 AM

read it last night, i like it, the joker the way he's suppose to be, nuts.

DaveMoral - 1-22-2008 at 07:12 PM

Miller's always captured him. No one does him better, except perhaps Moore.

DaveMoral - 1-28-2008 at 01:14 AM

I just picked up The Immortal Iron Fist volume 1 trade paperback. Great story. Can't wait to hunt down issues 7-12 now. Looks like I need to pick up the Essential Iron Fist too.

There's not nearly enough kung fu comics out there...

bombidol - 1-28-2008 at 07:01 AM

On a related note. Folks I need the names and rough addresses of your local comic store. Ones that are big enough to handle a signing by a top name.

thanks lads
