The future of America...

What are your thoughts on the future of the United States, like in the next 50-100 years? Not based on war or tech advances, but just based on people and the way that people behave.


Its just amazing to me that there seem to be so many young people that are doing something that 'adults' would consider bad. To differant degrees, but it seems like there are more and more young peple with huge visable tattoos. There are thousands of young girls that either purposly post naked photos or 'model' or a site like Suicide Girls and there are thousands more that just take and share nude pics that end up online somewhere.

To a far worse extreme there are tons of kids that are fucking criminals! The thread about the 16-17 year olds forcing the 12 year olds into prostitution is what made me think of all this.

I figure that a few years ago it was a HUGE issue that Bill Clinton 'Might' have smoked pot. At the rate we are going now in 50-100 years IF the world is still here, you wont be able to find a person that would fit the 2008 criteria of being president!

The whole world is going straight to hell. In the next 100 years I predict there will be a large Islamic assault on the western world. I'm talking full scale invasion starting with Europe and moving over here. I forsee World War 3. Shit is going to hit the fan.

hell 30 years ago kids did not act like this...
I blame drugs and the war against drugs
it's the worst slavery we have ever seen
how can a kid grow to be a responsible adult if their parents are strung out, not there, or in jail?
and if the kids have parents they end up in trouble with kids who don't


people are not afraid of the consequences of their actions anymore and morality is gone...
while I don't follow any religious belief it does not mean that I am not a moral person...
and I learned those morals from my folks, who while they sucked at life, showed me how to be better than they were.

I say bring the end of humanity already

Thats very well said. It is just a complet lack of fear for any consiquences of any actions that young people seem to make.

Its kind of amazing that 50 years ago Playboy was taboo and now 1/2 of highschool girls have pics of them sucking off their boyfriends on their computers.

I agree with you Steve that the lack of responsible parenting in a childs life has gotten us to where we are today. Working with homeless kids has really opened my eyes to how shittys some kids really have it these days. Just observing the kids and how they act and talk about the things they have done such as robing, assulting others and hate crimes and these kids on average arent even 18. Not to mention I live in the middle of nowhere (VT) so if its bad up here it cant be much better anywhere else. Most of it is because thier parents just gave up on them. They left town without them, chose drugs over there kids or are in jail and unable to care for them. Its not easy for kids who grew up that way and were left on there own to survive on there instincts to lie, cheat and steal to get them to change there ways because its the only way they know because its whats gotten them to survive up until this point.

exactly. I dont think we need a war as much as we need to take care of the problem in a more civilized way such as offering more services for troubles youth instead of throwing them in jail where they will only be confined to more criminal minds which will offer no change for the better.

You're going to see a huge moral backlash from all this, the large majority of the population is going to swing to the side of the Christian right as things continue to detoriate and then we'll have what Discipline was talkin' about. "They" (still workin' on that one) are using religion to polarise the globe.

I agree with all of this, but I think its even more of a problem that there are so many Middle and Upper class young people and kids that are huge fuck ups. If the poor kids and the kids with shitty parents are all fucked up and the rich kids and the middle class kids with parents are fucked up and none of them have any morals be it in reguards to sex, stealing, drugs, violence, whatever... then who is that generation left with to run shit???

i sometimes fear for my son's future, but then again, when i look around, just within a few miles i see kids just a little older than him (12-15) commiting some fucked up crimes, it makes me realize that me and his wacky mom have done a good job raising him thus far.....Philly has some fuckin awlful shit happening every day, and it's all pretty much almost in our back yards here. ...i'm rambling here, but I'm glad he goes to a good school, all of his friends are good kids from functional families....unlike the cretins I grew up around...

In past generations people used religion as a guide to their lives. Well now there is mass media and the media has exposed the majority of the shortcomings in the institutions (i.e Priests fucking kids) and it is made a lot of people really question those institutions, if not the parents the kids sure are, and rightfully so in my opinion. If the holiest of the holiest are committing mortal sins how the hell can they expect the followers not to?

And as bad as things are, to sit here and say they are SOOOOO much worse then years past is a bit short sighted. Back then it was much easier to sweep things under the rug. It's not like rape, racism, murder, etc., are new things by any means its just a lot more upfront because of millions of media outlets via the TV, radio, internet, newspapers, etc,. I mean it wasn't that long ago that segration was in place and blacks were being lynched for the color of their skin.

Also one of the contributing factors is drugs across the board are a lot stronger than back in the 60's/70's and also are celebrated in underground cirlces a lot more as well.

Bottomline, things have always been fucked up, the human race has been digging its own grave since day one and to say otherwise is bullshit. Thanks to mass media things are just a lot more noticeable. I mean shit it wasn't that long ago people were lucky if they could read a local newspaper or even read for that matter.

WWIII will start when Jews & Evangelicals try to take back the Temple on the Mound in Jerusalem for the 2nd coming. A full century of mass media overload has numbed the senses, especially common sense, and ignorance is 10000x more rampant throughout than it is right now. New York will have balmy winters similar to winter in New Mexico these days, while Florida will be a desert wasteland (the parts not under water) and California may have been sunk by the big one they keep waiting for.

People vacation in Churchill Manitoba not to see the polar bears (no, see they are extinct now). They go to bask in the summer warmth and vast beaches of Hudson Bay and swim in the water where polar bears once walked on ice just a century before.

George IV is the ruler of the land, elections have been out for 25+ years and a rotating procession of dictators from the far right control the land, making today's Saudi Arabia or Pakistan look like communist nations. The country has been through 2 major depressions in 100 years, including the one that started late 2007 with the sub prime fallout and went to 2014, its worst happening funnily enough in 2012 when suicide rates hit 35% and diseases like Polio made a comeback in the slums of major metro areas due to lack of money and sanitary conditions.

Much like Ireland during the potato famine, millions of Americans try to flee the country, many of them landing on nations once oppressed or controlled by multinational businesses based in America where citizens were exploited for cheap labour and natural resources. These countries now hold the balance of power in the world and millions of Americans are refugees in camps and homeless. The American dollar no better than the Ruble in the 1980's.

Those few Americans with some savings make their way through town on horse drawn cars, as oil is no longer a resource we can use or afford for fuel, and no alternative was found before the money ran out and depression ensued. Meanwhile nations in Africa once third world now have moved up to first world status, efficient transport powered by free energy, while they have claimed back the remaining natural resources they haved and put strict restrictions on their mining and use as they are trying to prevent the oil crisis that contributed to Americas downfall.

The defence forces have largely been sold off to China, India, Brazil etc in a desperate attempt to consolidate the incredible foreign debt the country earned over the centuries. Other nations no longer provide anything ad hoc or in good will, everything must be paid for up front, though in a sign of charity at Live America, Bono's grandson has managed to sway the world into wiping off $500 billion in US foreign debt, just a drop in the bucket even in today's world.

All this, and the writers guild is still on strike, those fries and burger from McDonalds in Supersize Me are still mold free and well preserved, "middle class" Americans are still arguing over Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD, re-re-re-re-re-mastered Jimi Hendrix and Jeff Buckley albums are sill being released in new formats to those overseas nations who missed out the first 30 times, and the offspring of flight 815 are still on an island with a black smokey monster waiting for better days.

I dont have an issue with it, but Im curious.... why do you think that porn has become so mainstream? By that I dont mean Jenna Jameson being on The Tonight Show. I mean so many 16-24 year old girl sending out nude pics to friends?

I think the porn has a couple of different things going on...

first reason...the parents don't care....
but boyfriends do...he says he does so why shouldn't I belive him...

our media is still sexist as fuck, so it does not help girls self esteeem issues at all...
how many pop stars getting prego's and writting songs about sex...

and girls think it's empowering to take their bodies under their own control....
and it is, noone should be ashamed of their body..
however as long as there are dirty old men, they will do whatever they can to expolit any girl they can...
so the empowerment works against them...
