sleep deprivation

JawnDiablo - 1-16-2008 at 02:57 PM

so I've been deprived of proper sleep for a few days now and think I have begun to halucinate....and I swear I saw a troll crouched behind a box in the warehouse just a minute ago out of the corner of my eye....fuckin hell

did you know the body does not require sleep to function? True stuff. As for the troll, well you're on your own with that one.

4 consecutive hours in every 24 hour period is what you require to avoid sleep deprivation. I'm reasonably certain the body requires sleep, however I did read somewhere (Gilgamesh maybe?) that if you stay awake for 7 days you will gain immortality. I think the actual world record is 8 or 9 days, so I guess you'd have to ask that dude.

I wish I could remeber the book that I read where humans do not require sleep. I remember it saying that the body does not rrejuvinate cells any faster while awake then when asleep. But in searching for information to back this up im coming up wiith nothing. So there is a possiblity my source is wrong.

I read Lemmy's biography and swear he was up for like 10 days or something....meth induced however....

Are you sure it wasn't a midget? they get loose once in a while and you can find them in the strangest spots. I think by law if you find one though, you can technically keep it as your personal assistant.

That's possible, but there's some chemical shit going on when your sleeping and it only takes place when you are asleep.
3 1/2 days was the longest I've ever been awake, but that's going back to my soldier days.

its true, the body doesnt actually need sleep. theres two thoughts on it. One is that we sleep at night as a vestigial thing from the caveman days to avoid predators. The other theory is that the body needs to rest its muscles and this causes the brain to relax too. A good rest/lay down is as good to the body as actual sleep. Thats what the brainiacs tell us anyway. As to if its true, im not 100%, we dont need as much sleep as we take for sure. I would assume its 2 thirds those first two theorys and 1 third a mental thing.

I cannot possibly see how a human being could not need ANY sleep.
