Is indeed a guilty pleasure ofmine fromtime totime...
Up to the Conspiracy record.
Never heard nothin after that one though.
;)

King Diamond shouldn't be a guilty plesaure. Surely everyone likes Mercyful Fate/King Diamond right?
Not liking the King is like not liking Sheer Terror, I just can't comprehend it.
I pretty much only listen to the stuff up to Conspiracy. The new one is alright and his voice is still amazing but that early magic is just not there.
I would love to see King Diamond live!

I prefer not to go past Mercyful Fate.

Can't say I've ever been down with the King. A little too over the top for my tastes.

The newest album from King Diamond wasn't all that great, but as far as newer albums goes The Puppet Master was actually pretty good and I didn't mind Voodoo. Then again I'd rather listen to an average album from King Diamond than another band passing off death metal riffs and one note breakdowns as hardcore.

I'd also like to add that Mercyful Fate is awesome and will always be awesome.

My wife and I get a huge fucking kick out of the King. When we have a good BBQ going and I want to rouse the neighbors while suffering a drunken stupor, I crank some King Diamond as loud as possible and just laugh at the people walking by, they don't know what to think :)

THEM is a masterpiece. CONSPIRACY is up there too, along with the older stuff & the Fate stuff.

Furly - 1-28-2008 at 01:36 PM

I've never really listened to him. Saw him years back, happy I did, but could care less about listening to him.

panzerkreuzer - 1-28-2008 at 02:46 PM

i canīt stand his voice, he sounds like a castrated dog for me. the music is really good, but...

Love the King. Them is by far my favorite, but I actually REALLY like his last one "Give Me Your Soul Please" - some of it even reminds me of Mercyful Fate (especially the title track, song is all kinds of awesome).

And those first 3 MF albums (I'm counting "In the Beginning" as an album) - "Melissa" is tied with the Cleveland band Black Death's debut LP for my all time favorite metal record. If you've never heard Black Death and you love old school metal, it don't get no better.

Unfortunately, I have never saw King live - hopefully I'll get a chance to before he has to hang it up, at least as far as touring goes. I know his back is giving out on him, I think he had to cancel his last tour due to being in near constant pain.

I remember when I was around 12 or 13 and I was just getting into underground metal, I think it's right when King first went solo. I thought the guy was scary as shit (hey, I was young - I actually thought Motley Crue were sorta sinister when Shout came out  ) - turns out the dude always seems super polite and respectful

That Black Rose CD he put out several years ago kicks all kinds of ass too.
