JawnDiablo - 1-30-2008 at 09:10 PM

XHonusWagnerX - 1-30-2008 at 10:33 PM

is that new Bolt Thrower?

JawnDiablo - 1-30-2008 at 10:49 PM

no that is old Bolt Thrower off of Realm Of Chaos circa 89 or 90

BDx13 - 1-31-2008 at 12:29 AM

do any of you have the bolt thrower peel sessions? the version of 'warmaster' on that recording is AMAZING.

juan, i think we've covered this before, but were you at that Bolt Thrower show at G. Willikers in Pennsauken? There were dozens of nazi skins and shit COMPLETELY hit the fan during their set. The Bolt Thrower roadie was throwin' baldies around by the throat, Jo Bench was swinging her bass to keep all the sieg heilers off the stage, and Karl ran right in to the pit and started punchin' mother fuckers in the face.

nazi skins were always a part of going to shows in pa, and shit could always go down - especially at shows in lancaster, reading, allentown - but when we walked in to that club, it was one of the few times i knew we were squarely on their turf. i was definitely scared.

Heres my account of the NJ Riot...It is a memorable point in the history of BoltThrower...

We where told before to expect some shit at this venue, we where greeted by a somewhat jumpy female promoter, Nazi skinheads had recently been walking into gigs and trashing the place and causing brawls, rumour had it tonight was to be no different.

We met with the guys from Immolation , top blokes...off their tits on PCP, the load in was amusing...I'd had a bit of crystal meth that night which may have added to the overall weirdness of the night. Robert Muller our German freind from Century Media Records was also there, he kindly gave us the loan of his pet slugger(baseball bat), which we removed from the trunk (boot) of his car and surrepticiously hid behind the stage.

I remember throughout the support bands these nazi pricks had started to do that stupid arm streching routine a lot...I got on stage and told them to stop..(no suprise they didn't...but they'd had a warning....)

When we went on stage I was furious, I remember some small black dude, well into the band and metal who was petrified by these animals, I think I warned them a couple of times...but the only thing these idiots would react to was direct confrontation.

I launced myself off the stage aiming myself at this one gangly twat whom had annoyed me particularly, and between me and the sound engineer from the venue we had them cornered, I looked out the corner of my eye to see this huge Neaderthal coming right at me, with adolf hitler tattoed on his chest, at this point our Tour Manager intervened with the German slugger!

I saw the nazi monster collapse to the fllor with blood pissing out of his head, the backswing to the bat almost killed one of the skinhead kids whom must have been about 12.

The place descended into chaos, the security guards where related to the skinheads, it could have got bad...We loaded our gear out superquick thanks to a more together immolation! and high tailed it out of there.

As we left, Baz remembered we left the baseball bat in the venue, he went back in to retreive it just as the skinheads returned to the venue for vengeance...I have never seen a man move so quick through a melee of flailing limbs!

We drove off and we then thought that we where being followed by carloads of nazis after our blood, so we pulled over to confront them, yelling as we approached the stopped vechiles, until we realised it was some fans just making sure we got away ok....

A great yarn, to tell the grandchildren..(!?!)

yeah dude I was at that show. I was a skinny long haired 16 year old and was pretty scared about gettingmy head smashed.
I have some of the peel sessions on mp3s.
used to have a tape i got at 3ed street jazzn rock in high school.
they were a killer band.
i dont know if they are still around anymore, but thelast thing i got from them was 4th crusade and it wasnt as coolas warmaster

BDx13 - 1-31-2008 at 11:29 AM

that's funny. i was the 16 year old straight edge kid that was pretty scared about getting his head smashed.

yeah, i kinda jumped from the Peel Sessions release (which came after Warmaster) to their latest, Those Once Loyal, which came out in '05 and I HIGHLY recommend.

they're still around and are recording a new album in fact. unfortunately, they have just one show scheduled of '08.

BKT - 1-31-2008 at 11:56 AM

They were a great band. The 4th Crusade was one of my fav albums by those guys. However, Realm of Chaos is still number one.

first four track are from '88 with alan west on vocals. i never listen to them.

the remaining eight tracks are from '90 with karl on vocals and are some of my favorite recordings of these songs.

(for those of you not familiar, john peel was a radio dj in london who had bands come in to the bbc and play live during his show.)

Discipline - 1-31-2008 at 02:35 PM

I think Warmaster is my favorite album, but the title track from "For Victory" might be my favorite song.

DaveMoral - 1-31-2008 at 11:11 PM

IVth Crusade is an awesome album. Shit, Bolt Thrower is just plain awesome.

I need to listen to some Bolt Thrower now...

MikeFromInhuman - 2-1-2008 at 09:46 AM

If you dont want to WRECK SHIT when you hear that song, or almost any BT song, I can't help you!

That "riff" that apperars on every BOLT cd is sooo awesome!!!!!

upyerbum - 2-1-2008 at 10:30 AM

I've had ample opportunities to check these guys out, but never bothered, now I'll have to take a listen. I always just assumed they were some bad metal act a la Man-O-War. (who I like in that campy metal way)

BDx13 - 2-1-2008 at 02:07 PM

if you're downloading the peel session link above, i do recommend you skip the first four tracks.
those were recorded very early in the bands career before the arrival of their primary vocalist.
the remaining tracks make me want to smash shit.

JawnDiablo - 2-1-2008 at 02:30 PM

Yo Duane,
Thanks fer them links.
I listened to Tad and Bolt Thrower on the ride in today.
awesome.

BDx13 - 2-1-2008 at 06:56 PM

ever hear Napalm Death's Peel Sessions or the ones Carcass did ?
the napalm death shit is just crushing

BDx13 - 2-3-2008 at 02:16 PM

unfortunately not.
peel session recordings (before the days of file sharing) were always kinda tough to come by.

DaveMoral - 2-3-2008 at 03:33 PM

I think the Carcass Peel sessions are on "Wake Up and Smell the Carcass." Good stuff. Haven't heard it in a long while.

Discipline - 2-3-2008 at 03:51 PM

The DOA Peel sessions were amazing.

MikeFromInhuman - 2-4-2008 at 10:34 AM

I brought the REALM OF CHAOS cd on the train with me today, great Monday Morning Music for sure.
