Max Cavalera disses Killswitch Engage!

MikeFromInhuman - 2-13-2008 at 10:40 AM

AMEN MAX!

M.

From Blabbermouth.net

The February 2008 issue of Sweden's Close-Up features an interview with SEPULTURA founding members Max and Igor Cavalera, who are currently collaborating in CAVALERA CONSPIRACY. An excerpt from the chat follows (quotes taken from the interview's original English-language transcript).

Igor, when did you lose interest in metal and why?

"Actually, by playing," says the drummer. "First too much touring and then losing the passion for playing. Plus the scene… I can't remember one amazing band. To be completely honest with you, I still today don't know one new band, metal band, that I like. Maybe I would listened to it and find some things here and there interesting."

"I went to see LAMB OF GOD in that States and they were alright, but KILLSWITCH ENGAGE opened and it was the gayest show I've ever seen," says Max Cavalera. "I was like, I'm not part of this scene, it's fucking gay.' They were acting like they were U2 and I was like, 'Hmm….' The attitude was so ridiculous. I don't know these guys, they're on my label [Roadrunner] and all, but it was completely disappointing and gay. Like really lame, such a lame band live, everything about the whole attitude. LAMB OF GOD came out and destroyed them and I don't even like LAMB OF GOD that much, but they were so much better coming after KILLSWITCH ENGAGE. I was like, 'If that's what the scene is about, hey fuck it, it ain't got nothing to do with me."

he´s damn right.

bombidol - 2-13-2008 at 11:15 AM

Proper order. Now if Max can only remember how to write songs we'll be on to a winner.

BDx13 - 2-13-2008 at 11:19 AM

That is funny. And it's a feeling I think a lot of us can relate to.

God, I loved that band.

the cavalera conspiracy isn´t that bad. i listened to it quite often in the last days.

BDx13 - 2-13-2008 at 11:31 AM

is it out already?

panzerkreuzer - 2-13-2008 at 11:32 AM

JawnDiablo - 2-13-2008 at 11:44 AM

killswitch is gayer than aids.
i still have mega respect for max for all the good stuff he made years ago
chaos AD is gold

MikeFromInhuman - 2-13-2008 at 12:21 PM

At the very least, Max has the balls to say what no other older bands are saying in the world of Extreme Metal.

defstarsteve - 2-13-2008 at 01:04 PM

i've heard 2 songs and they are some of the best stuff either has written in years...

LOL. That's the same thing I thought the first time I saw Earth Crisis back in '92 I think at Middlesex, NJ. After about 2 minutes of that I walked outside and came back in when they where finished. Yes HC was dead and it was plain to see.

clevohardcore - 2-13-2008 at 03:30 PM

man that is refreshing to read. SO many people are worried of dissing bands or things they may be associated with. I have witnessed the shittysound of killingswitch and I couldn't agree more. They were they band that alwayts toured with some good band. Never understood it.

As far as Sepultra or his new band I'd like to hear it. I respect anyone who can rockout as much as ARISE did. THat record is gold to me.

I agree with eveything he had to say except LoG being just alright. Chris Adler alone makes LoG amazing.
But with that said, as much as I love him talking shit on one of the most overrated bands, as far as I'm concerned dude has little room to talk after putting out shitty record after shitty record with Soulfly. They were fucking terrible. Nu METAL TO THE FULLEST BRAH!

Yes, he's put out some horrible records in the past ten years or so, but he gets my respect for all the Sepultura records up to Chaos AD as well as Nailbomb.

Six66Mike - 2-13-2008 at 06:51 PM

I liked Killswitch when Jesse was still in the band, live it was so good and the attitude was "holy fuck we're playing a show, people dig it, and we're opening for Soilwork & Hypocrisy, this is amazing".

Howard is a massive douche and brought the band down so much, lost interest since he's joined.

I'd just like the say that the last couple Soulfly records turn the clock back to pre-Roots Sepultura and they are pretty awesome. Not Beneath the Remains, Arise or Chaos AD awesome... but good listens either way.

DAK - 2-14-2008 at 08:41 PM

Beneath The Remain, Arise, and Chaos AD are the bomb.:karate:

DAK - 2-14-2008 at 08:42 PM

And Nailbomb kicks ass. Didn't care for Soulfly.

Not to me. That shit was for the birds. Some of the worst MTV numetal I've ever heard.

Did you even listen to the Dark Ages? That was Arise redux almost.

Siczine.com - 2-15-2008 at 05:37 PM

Yes..I have. But I disagree with your opinion. Their isn't anything Soulfly has put out that is worth listening to.

Siczine.com - 2-15-2008 at 05:41 PM

Oh and I would contribute their change in sound on that CD to them trying to get on the tit of whats hot right now. It was numetal back in 97-2000, now its a new breed of wannabe metal ala KSE, Trivium.

DaveMoral - 2-15-2008 at 11:25 PM

^That's definitely not what I heard on the Dark Ages man.

Siczine.com - 2-16-2008 at 12:04 AM

I was a bit sloppy with my phrasing, I was not saying they sound like any of those bands, just the fact that they tried to bring back more metal elements on Dark Ages to appeal to the mainstream because palatable metal is whats hot right now.

Numetal is out and it's going the way of the bands mentioned.

JawnDiablo - 2-16-2008 at 12:33 AM

this dude i work with likes Lamb Of God....I don't find anything appealing in that band...

this has nothing to do with nothing but...whatever
