Dave - 2-14-2008 at 09:04 PM

so mine died, and i kinda need one for school work and such.

anyone know of any good laptop models out there for around $700-1000?

i don't game on it, but i do need it for some, 3D work AutoCAD, Revit, and photoshop etc....

My last one was an Acer, that ended up fucking up and having a bad board in it, so i don't want another one of those....

I just bought a GATEWAY from circuit city. 2GB 250 whatevers. I love this thing. VIsta, the whole nine yards and it wasn't rediculous in price. Mine is a M- series. You'll dig it. Check it out when your shopping.

I'm waiting on delivery of a refurbished G4 Powerbook that I only paid 700 bucks for right now. I know you said no macs, but this place I got it from has some really great deals right in your price range.

many manufacturers still offer XP on new machines.
i know dell does.

and if they don't still offer xp you can roll vista to xp with xp drivers...

hp has always been good to me
but everyone has a preference

WHat is so bad about vista? I have no problems and I actually like the new stuff with office and everything. Its way more convenient and I thought XP was good.

The only complaint I ever heard was vista took too much space in the harddrive. That is why they only suggest getting a 2GB or more becasue of it. SO if your system is a littel old they suggest not getting it and just use XP.

Anyone have any other complaints of VISTA? What are they?

90% of the programs I use on a daily basis are not compatible with it...
so I have to buy new software as well...as a new computer....
ugh no thanks
atleast xp is somewhat stable...

^^^^^^^ Is that because its new? Or what? MAybe in time things will be compatible, but I do understand for the moment things are an issue.

that's one of the reasons vista has been so slow to take off. (and part of the reason mac sales have climbed so much recently.)

if you were previously running a windows machine that was any more than a year or two old, and you wanted to upgrade to vista, not only would you have to buy a new machine with processor power to handle vista, but you'd have to buy new copies of all your programs - they just don't run on vista.

I bought this movei for my son called ROBOTS. Its has Robin Williams,Mel Brooks and others in it. Good movie, the premise reminded me of my computer shopping experience. Everyone wants you to buy new. Spend all your money and get the best and new thing out. DO NOT UPGRADE. IT WON"T WORK OR BE COMPATIBLE. It is set up that way. It is not fair. Back in the day you could have a car for 30 years and use it everyday. Not you will be hard pressed to find one on the road after 15 year.

You simply rent or lease things anymore. It's no longer about onwership. Even if you buy the best its only good for so long. Until something else comes out next year and its no longer compatible.
