Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

Skins and Pinz

I've been listening to all three editions of this comp today and I think it's my favorite comp series from any label. GMM had so many great bands, so it's impossible to listen to these and not find a couple of bands you like.

Anti-Heros, Pinkerton Thugs, Ducky Boys, Agnostic Front, Iron Cross, Oxymoron, Patriot, Templars, Hudson Falcons, Pinkerton Thugs, Pressure Point, One Way System, APA, Disorderly Conduct, Lower Class Brats, DKM, Main Street Saints, Wretched Ones, The Trouble, Whiskey Rebels, etc.

I don't know if I would pick any as my favorite comp ever, but as a series I think it's my favorite.

I don't think I ever knew about a 3rd edition of that, but I thought the first one was fantastic. I wasn't nearly as impressed by the second one, but it was still pretty damn good. Actually, now that I think of it, my problem with the second one may have just been that I had most of the best stuff on it already by the time it came out. It's been quite a while since I looked at what exactly is on it, so maybe I'm misremembering, but I think that's why it wasn't too impressive to me. Honestly, I never bought the first one either, but I had several of the songs taped and I wore that tape out years ago. I miss GMM.

Volume 3 came out a couple of years ago when GMM was suddenly up and running again with a new website with an online store and everything. Unfortunately it didn't last too long and the GMM site was gone once again. Volume 3 is cool because while it has some of bands from the first two, they also added Bonecrusher, Deadline, Far From Finished, and a couple of others. It's pretty good. I like all three although I do have some of the stuff on their original albums. I really wish GMM was still running full time as they put out so many amazing cd's over the years.

Although I still find it odd that Mark Noah owns the label, but the last couple of Anti-Heros releases were on Taang.

I thought this was going to be about CAMPER VAN BEETHOVEN's 'Take the Skinheads Bowling"

Some label re-released it not too long ago... I actually think it was Bridge 9.

Last Anti Heros release was on GMM. American Pie and 1000 Nights of Chaos were both on Taang. I agree with you, though, since I did always think that was strange. Maybe GMM wasn't very active then? Maybe Taang had better distribution at the time?

But this thread reminds me how much I miss the annual Beer Olympics at the Masquerade.

Discipline - 3-21-2008 at 01:57 PM

I always wanted to go to the Beer Olympics. So many great bands played those shows.

Mark Lind - 3-22-2008 at 12:42 PM

"American Pie" was released on Taang before GMM really grew legs. And they signed for a 2 record deal. So that's why those releases weren't on GMM. But Taang's distro is also much bigger than GMM's.
