Texas Chainsaw Massacre - My favorite of all time!

The Shining - This one is still kind of scary!
American Werewolf in London - I didnt get into this movie until I was a little older, but its really good!
Evil Dead - No brainer... this is a great movie & a great trilogy!

Dusk Till Dawn - This ones good, but its so fucked up how it starts as one type of movie and then 1/2 way though it seems to completly change!
Bair Witch Project - I saw this in the theatre and enjoyed it, but since then I tried to watch it on TV and found it hard to get into.

2000's:
High Tension - Another one that I was surprised at how good it was.
Wolf Creek - I was SO dissapointed by this movie. I felt like it went no where and basicly made no sense!
Hostel - Loved the premis, really liked the movie.
The Descent - I was surprised at hoe good this was!
Devils' Rejects - I cant say enough good things about this movie!

the flood gates of monster movies opened up at Universal and the goodness flowed,
Also check out Flesheaters, it's considered the first official "gore" flick.
60's and 70's
Along with all the classics mentioned here I have to give a shout out to Hammer Horror, this is some of the best stuff and it taught all in the genre
alot. If you are old enough you will recognize some of the films vaguely as something seen on tv in the eighties on saturday and Sunday afternoons.
of course Night of the Living Dead, but also dawn of the dead, which was just as important
80's
The birth of the slasher genre, and alot of really good overlooked films, I highly recommend Maniac and Henry Portrait of a Serial killer, then
theres Funhouse, and while were on Tobe Hooper what about Poltregeist. Then the well knowns, Friday the 13th series, Nightmare on Elm st series. Other
John Carpentar flicks as well and then the masters of horror, King and Romero team up with the best make up guy in the biz savini for the wonder that
was Creepshow. God, the eighties had alot of good contributions to horror, I havent even gotten past the tip of ther icerburg yet. OPh yeah, Day of
the Dead (Romero has not let up since Night) and then of course Return of the Living dead
90's
this is where horror took a bit of a shit on itself, there were very good movies that came from the nineties, but alot of shitty "glamour horror" as I
call it came from there too. Some on here dig these flicks and all the power to them, I did not myself really enjoy them, but did watch almost every
single one of them in hopes of finding something good so it is and educated opinion. Savinis remake of Night of the Living dead was amazing.
the 21st century has seen a rebirth of sorts with the flooding of remakes, the Japanese horror craze, alot of independant film companies making decent
straight to DVD films, I would recommend the Descent and Dog Soldiers as they are both very original and are some of the best shit to come out so far
this decade. Zombies stuff is amazing as well. His remake of Halloween was phenominal, but he needs to do something original next and get away from
both the firefly family story and the remake gig. I look foward to anything he does. The remakes of the past decade are a sore spot for many purists,
but I have not been too dissapointed in them so far. You have to watch them as original films and not try to compare to the originals, the originals
win every time hands down. The next two big remakes on the horizon are Friday the 13th and Hellraiser. I look foward to both. Also, romero has made
diary of the dead, an important film to be sure, anyting he does is important. And so much more......... I like the direction the genre has taken as
