Road Bike Snobbery.

jonnynewbreed - 4-3-2008 at 07:46 PM

So I just bought a used road bike to commute to and from work (30km combined total).

Time to start shaving my chest and wearing spandex I guess. I had to go and buy pedals tonight to get mobile and I have to say that so far the road bike world seems fucking snobby.

I'm looking forward to wearing my cammo pants and punk rock t's and who knows, I may even breeze past some of the spandex crew someday.

I sold my vespa scooter because I was finding the local scene way to fucking serious so I think i'm going to keep to myself with these road bikers.

I wish I lived close enough to work to use a bike or scooter. Damn 35 miles on the highway!

Yeah that's pretty far. We'll see how the commute goes but the snob at the bike store said that riding your road bike to work was "sketchy".

I'm guessing he has a crazy expensive road bike, mine cost me $400 used so I can't afford to loose it but it wouldnt' be the same as having your 2000 bike stolen.

I work on a busy downtown street and I work days so I'm sure with a good lock I should be fine. Not much choice.

6km yesterday and 6km today. Off to a good start. Definitly not ready to commute the 12 km each way to work but on my way.

Yesterday I forgot that I have been sitting at a desk for the last year and decided to fucking give'r. Almost had a heart attack after riding the 6km. Today I took it easy and am feeling great.

I'm downtown in Philly a lot so I see a lot of bike riders and they all seem to wear chucks/dickies/sometimes tighter jeans and always have their one pant leg pulled up (I guess so they don't get it caught in the chain)...don't see anyone wearing spandex unless you go down Roxborough/Manuyank (where they hold the June bike race) and people are hardcore sports.

94.5% of North Americans use some sort of automobile, 5% use some Mass Transit and .5% use bikes as their main means of getting around (got that from my Environmental Conservation book)

Too many idiots on bikes in Toronto. A lot of them are asking to get hit by a car or truck.

i wanna get a bike for exercise and i just loved it when i was younger.
