i used sprint pcs for a ten years and had very few complaints about the quality of the service. customer service, however, is notoriously bad.

i've been with at&t since last fall and am happy with them so far. signal strength has never been a problem, customer service has been fine and their website (for account management) is better than sprint's.

CR83 - 4-22-2008 at 02:42 PM

Sprint. Never had any troubles. I looked into upgrading but I'm locked in. Doesn't make sense to me. I want to give them more money per month but they bend me over to have that happen. I am waiting unitl it is easier (cheaper) for me to do.

Furly - 4-22-2008 at 02:45 PM

the red one.

BDx13 - 4-22-2008 at 02:59 PM

chris, sprint has been BLEEDING customers recently.
call up, ask for a supervisor, and get the plan you want.

i should point out that the only reason i left sprint was because they didn't have any phones i liked.
every two years, i got a $200 phone credit, and i seriously sat on it for a year waiting for something i liked.
never happened.

defstarsteve - 4-22-2008 at 03:42 PM

I have verizon now as sprint was a joke in western PA
I need to get a PDA
anyone got any suggestions

XHonusWagnerX - 4-22-2008 at 04:44 PM

I had Tmobile and had a bunch of trouble with them. First I had a Sidekick II, then upgraded to a Sidekick III and then that was giving me trouble so I upgraded to a Dash and then the service on that started to suck.

Now I have AT&T, but really just because it was the only choice for the phone I got.

I have this phone.....

and its in one of these cases.....

Yeah, I'm in the one year window so right now I have a $75 credit. Once the foundation gets fixed that is the next item up for bid for me.

WERD

Spoiler - 4-22-2008 at 07:57 PM

I use AT&T.....never had a problem and customer service is great.
I also have an iPhone.
Honus...do you know about the big update coming in June ???

I used to have Sprint / Nextel.....and I was so glad when my contract ran out with them...shitty service and customer service is horrible.

JawnDiablo - 4-22-2008 at 08:49 PM

nextel's service/ signal just got worse and worse before i cancelled

tireironsaint - 4-22-2008 at 09:09 PM

I use Verizon and the service has been great. When I lived in Austin I had Sprint and hated it, especially their customer service. I had so many fucking problems with those assholes it was ridiculous. When I moved up here I discovered that they only had one tower in the area and so I basically only got reliable service if I was in the middle of downtown which, in this little burg, is about a six or seven block strip. I called around to see what other service I could get and found out that people had been able to get out of their Sprint contracts by citing the bad coverage here. I was skeptical after all the trouble they had given me in the past, but when I called and told them where I was they let me out with no fees. I've now had Verizon for almost four years and can't complain at all.

clevohardcore - 4-22-2008 at 09:09 PM

I have VERISON. Like them for the most part. THe newer phones are not so great and my contract is up where I get a new every 2 years. So I will get a phone for free and my wifes phone will be half off. I like the deals but the new phones are not so great as of yet. I wnat a IPHONE but the cost is above my means and I want a BLACKBERRY but the cost is a issue as well.

Looks like I'll have ot settle for that new thick ass phone VERISON has that folds open to get to the keyboard. I like the phone but it seems like a big phone to carry around.

This is what I might get.

3G will make the iPhone pretty impressive...I'd be tempted to get one again. But man that virtual keyboard isn't worth a damn

IF you have a IPHONE do you have to pay an extra service to use it for surfing etc? Like the BLACKBERRY?

XHonusWagnerX - 4-23-2008 at 11:28 AM

ok... stupid question.... whats the 3G iPhone?

BDx13 - 4-23-2008 at 12:08 PM

the iphone runs on at&t, which is called EDGE (it is considered 2.5G) and has a theoretical data transfer limit of 236.8 kbit/s. in practice, most people get much less - more like 100kbit/s.

the next generation of cellular data transfer technology is called 3G, and has a theoretical speed limit of 14.4Mbit/s. again, no one will actually get that speed, but it will be much faster than edge.

3G is widely available from other networks, but at&t is just now rolling theirs out.

XHonusWagnerX - 4-23-2008 at 12:20 PM

Ahhhh wow... thats pretty cool yet shitty for people that bought the iPhone already.

clevohardcore - 4-23-2008 at 01:08 PM

SO the new IPHONE is availabe through VERIZON?

BDx13 - 4-23-2008 at 01:48 PM

no, at&t has a multi-year exclusive on the iphone in the US.

3G is not a proprietary format, but the ability to offer it to subscribers is dependent on the carrier having the hardware (read:towers) in place to offer it. the 3G iphone is widely expected because:
- at&t recently announced a significant rollout of the service nationwide this spring
- the company that makes the 3g chips for the iphone recently announced smaller, less-power-hungry version. (apple said it launched the iphone without 3g because the large chip would effect design and shorten battery life).

clevohardcore - 4-23-2008 at 02:42 PM

I hear dof the at&t contract but I must have misread the info. My bad.

SO if you ahve a iphone does it cost above your monthly contract to use it?

BDx13 - 4-23-2008 at 04:04 PM

it's not 'extra' per se, as all rate plans include however many minutes PLUS unlimited email & web data.

http://www.apple.com/iphone/easysetup/rateplans.html

BDx13 - 4-23-2008 at 04:05 PM

Geoff... at&t's rollover minutes RULE.
After five months, i have like 500 rollover minutes.
great for the rare occasion when i go over my allotment.

Spoiler - 4-23-2008 at 05:16 PM

Adobe is working on "Flash" for the iPhone Safari browser as well.
