support ABC NO RIO | NYC

ABC NO RIO needs to raise a shit ton of money in order to tear down and rebuild their building. If you are in the NYC area you might wanna think of chipping in a few bucks as ABC remains one of the very few hc/punk places in the city. CB's is gone already. I'd hate to see it happen to ABC as well

Support ABC No Rio

On June 29, 2006 ABC No Rio took ownership of the building at 156 Rivington Street.

To date we have raised almost $400,000 for our Building fund. Most of this money has come from our own community of artists, activists, performers, patrons and supporters. People who believe in what we do, and who want to see ABC No Rio continue and to further develop the resources, facilities and programs we offer.

Continued public support is necessary for us to meet the challenges ahead.

Local architect Paul Castrucci has been working with No Rio towards the design of a new facility. As many of you know, the building at 156 Rivington Street is distressed and in disrepair. We've determined that existing conditions are such that responsible repair and renovation would be difficult and not significantly less costly than new construction.

Through new construction we will build dramatically improved facilities and resources for our cultural, community and educational activities. Over the course of the past several months, we met many times, assessed our current and future needs, and now have plans for a new building on the site.

New construction will expand our first floor gallery and performance space; install new building-wide systems (electrical, plumbing, heating); provide disabled access to areas used for public events; and create more useful and efficient workshop facilities. Our approach will be towards green and sustainable design: energy efficiency and conservation, use of local and recycled materials, and the installation of a green roof.

Through this project we will augment and enhance ABC No Rio's use of the site for all our projects and programs. It will cost almost $2 million. That's a lot of money. But with your help we can do it, and we really believe the end result will be worth it.

The battle to secure ABC No Rio has been waged through Do-It-Yourself volunteerism, art and activism, without giving-in or selling-out to corporate sponsors.

Our 'culture of opposition' goes back over twenty-six years to our founding.

We need your help to continue this tradition for another twenty-five.

Secure on-line contributions by credit card can now be made to ABC No Rio's Building Fund through PayPal. Please make a donation today.

I wonder if theres a 'Big' band that used to play there that could kick in a bunch of money or do some kind of benefit show.
