The idiocy that is the Bridge 9 message board is one of the biggest things wrong in hardcore today. They will jump on the bandwagon of any band that is sXe, even if the band sucks. They are always posting pictures of their fucking shoes, or their record collection, etc., but rarely talk about the quality of bands and lyrics. They hate most old-school hardcore unless it's 80's youth crew shit, even though a lot of the original bands paved the way for what they listen to today. For them, it's all about appearances in the "scene" as opposed to caring about the music, which is supposed to be the backbone of it all. Bridge 9 supports and encourages this by releasing records by a lot of mediocre bands, just because the band gets hyped up on their message board. Most of the time it's because the band sings about nothing but being "edge 'til death" or something equally moronic. Bridge 9 isn't looking towards the future, they only look to cater to what is popular right now, as opposed to looking for bands that will be around for longer than 6 months before breaking up. They don't care as long as they can print up a ton of X-covered merch and a 7" that comes in 7 different colours with 16 different "limited edition" covers so they can sell multiple copies of the same record to the idiots on their message board. Basically, Bridge 9 caters to the stupid trends that are destrying harcore.

Mike Smith,
a) the B9 board is "the kids", not a bunch of crochety old dudes (although I'm 32)
b) plenty of B9 bands have not gotten any love on the B9 board, if we used the B9 board as a barometer we'd be putting out records with the Mongoloids, Shipwreck and New Found Glory (ah, shit OK you got me there)
c) B9 has released records with SEVEN of the bands listed on your myspace page
d) no hard feelings on my end, just figured I'd point that out. I've got to get back to my job putting out records :singing:

Bridge 9 albums I like:

Miles Away - Consequences
Champion - Promises Kept
On The Rise - Burning Inside
Ramallah - But A Whimper
No Warning - Ill Blood
Sinners & Saints - The Sky Is Falling
Proclamation - Taken By Force

The message board is simply trash. Same goes for the CSWS forums here, and Lambgoat. Any popular forum you get a massive amount of douchebags and dick riding, people trying to 1 up each other. Plus as you said, the fucking shoe collections and shit, damn. What ever happened to buying shit you need, I've never got into this whole collection thing, vinyl or otherwise. Listen to the music, don't collect every fucking pressing.

B9

I never said B9 had never released anything good, as I do own a few releases from the label. But the majority of stuff on B9 I find to be horrible, especially crap like NFG.. As for the old dudes on here, most of us (including you I would assume) have been listening to hardcore for a long time and remember when it was still about music. Most kids don't care about how things, for the most part, have changed for the worse. It's those kids that worship B9 that are all about the things in the scene I hate. I realize that change is going to come about as the years go by, but the changes I've seen, particularly in the last 10 years, have had a negative impact on hardcore music. I'm not going to tell anybody how to live their lives, but jsinn asked for opinions good and bad, so I gave mine.

I dont get it... are you saying that this board is trash??

and how does Slapshot - greatest hits not make your list?

DeathByForce - 4-30-2008 at 07:17 PM

Honestly, I dig a lot of what B9 releases. But I stopped caring about the old/new styles of hardcore as I've become a lot less jaded. Although I don't really dig a lot of the fanbase or internet hardcore kids. I'm more likely to be seen at a show with whatever I've had on that day, not with my slammin' kicks and my urban wear to try to look tough.

Lucabrasi - 4-30-2008 at 09:17 PM

I own a couple of their releases but a lot of the stuff isn't my taste. The board really is a cesspool of dick jokes "lol look at this persons myspace" and noodz threads. Thats my only gripe.

This board is good :) Smaller group of older people. Its the wildly popular boards flooded with teens that generally suck.

Not much of a Slapshot fan either, they didn't make the cut haha
