You like Neil and all the old bass players better than Mike?

XnMeX - 5-8-2008 at 07:18 PM

Yeah, prety much. As for old bass players.... Wasn't there just Ian and Gina?

JawnDiablo - 5-8-2008 at 07:36 PM

I'd like to hear it in a small bar whilst pounding beer.

Six66Mike - 5-8-2008 at 09:59 PM

Wonder if they do any BFB covers :D

I would nominate Rob.

Mahoney was always very cool via e-mail. He had that B4B web site a few years back. I e-mailed him a bunch of times when Wasted Youth Brew came out. He seemed really nice.

mattybar - 5-9-2008 at 09:49 AM

ex bfb members playing bruisers covers

might as well be a bfb set judging by the standard of their last few releases...

Members
Erick "Buddha" Medina - Vocals
"White Trash" Rob Lind - Guitar, Vocals
Ian McFarland - Bass
Neal Dike - Drums

Previous members
Mike "Cap'n" Mahoney - Drums
Gina Benevides - Bass
Greg Dellaria - Bass
Jeremy Wooden - Bass

Mark Lind - 5-9-2008 at 11:22 AM

Jeremy from Diecast was their first bass player.

I consider the "ex-members" advertisement to be deceiving if it isn't the songwriter or the singer involved. Not just for BFB but for all bands.

I agree with that. I just figure if your trying to sell your band or trying to help a band any time you can link them to a more well known band it can help.

Mark Lind - 5-9-2008 at 12:44 PM

Oh for sure! And I'm not using this topic to lash out against Mike or anything. It was just a thought that popped into my head as I read this.

I generally connect with a band over their songs or the voice. If I get duped into checking out another band because their bass player used to back up a talented songwriter then I'm gonna be pissed. ha

Sorry, just of the opinion that the more he came to the front of B4B as a "personality" in the band, the more the band started to become a silly caricature of itself.

SS76 - 5-9-2008 at 04:30 PM

All my favorite songs by Blood For Blood are the ones Rob sings on."Personality"? He writes all the lyrics, so why the fuck wouldn't he sing them? Lemmy's probably your least favorite Motorhead member.

Agreed. I've seen so many bands that advertise ex-members of "insert band" so I'll check it out. It usually turns out to be somebody that played bass on one track 10 years ago.

Doesnt everyone love Wurzel the most? ;)

SS76 - 5-9-2008 at 04:45 PM

At least he played on Sacrifice, and has one of my favorite Motorhead songs on his resume, Over Your Shoulder. Probably not my favorite member though...Philthy was the crazy fucker!

Mark said that Jeremy was the original bass player, but Im not sure about Greg. The line-ups I listed are from Wikapedia.

That was really reaching.

If you can't tell the difference between the greatness of the Demo to Spit My LAst breath (and most of revenge) and the silly cartoonish 'white trash motherfucker woe is me white trash white trash fuck you my pecker white trash fuck you white trash' nonsense I'd venture to guess you picked up on the band around that time.

Writing the music and or lyrics has nothing to do with it. There is a clear cut difference from when Rob was a member of a band called Blood for Blood to when Blood for Blood was a promotional vehicle for his pissing and moaning.

SS76 - 5-9-2008 at 11:51 PM

Greatness to cartoonish.......riiiight. He writes the music and lyrics, and I'll always love Blood For Blood for they stand for...brutal fucking honesty and great music to drink beer to. In my opinion music gets no better than this band. And I'm sure when they put out another album, it'll just get better.

XHonusWagnerX - 5-10-2008 at 07:31 AM

maybe Im stupid, but I like the later stuff better.

JawnDiablo - 5-10-2008 at 08:13 AM

In my opinion, it all got better with each new record. I liked the progression.
While I still love each record for it's own reason, I liked how they matured as a band. Serenity was a tight EP.

I like them all too, dont get me wrong! I like Serenity also, but I like "Livin in Exile" and "Outlaw Anthems" the best.

SS76 - 5-10-2008 at 11:45 AM

Outlaw Anthems will always be my favorite, but Ramallah's Kill A Celebbrity (yeah, I know, different band) finishes a real close second.

Jeremy played on the first demo, I believe. The song "Life" is on Wasted Youth Brew. There were 4 other songs from those sessions that are pretty much lost.

Greg played on the "Hurt You" demo.

Its just music and people can interpret it how they want - that's kind of the cool thing about music. I understand what you're saying. What one person sees as being solid (the Hurt You demo) could be seen by someone else as being "restrained". They were just another hardcore band until Rob decided to stop holding back and grab the reigns more firmly for "Revenge on Society" and then they blew up. But that doesn't mean its gonna appeal to everyone. To each his own.

Jason the Magnificent - 5-10-2008 at 01:38 PM

I understand what you're saying but Blood for Blood was never 'just another hardcore band' from the first note they set themselves apart from just about everything else that was going on at that point in time aside from maybe Cold as Life.

Personally, I agree with you. But I've liked every step of their recording career for what it was. But I do recall them being buried deep on shows and not really standing out at all until "revenge on society". That's when they went from being just another band opening a show to the band that everyone was coming to see. I guess that's what I meant by that.....

Shifting the subject just a little, I'd love to see some of the other songs off their old demo get released. They'd never let it happen but some of those songs weren't so bad at all. They also had some other songs that were caught on tape from live radio performances. I'm sure Mike Mahoney has copies of them but the band would never let them get released. They were songs from the time period between "Hurt You" and "Spit My Last Breath". I've never seen a band throw away so many great songs.

I have all their albums and the 2 songs from the worldwide tribute to the real oi....is there anything else out there?

upyerbum - 5-10-2008 at 05:39 PM

The Angelic Upstarts cover off that worldwide tribute is excellent.

SS76 - 5-10-2008 at 06:11 PM

If I'm goin out, I'm takin some of you fucks with me!

mattybar - 5-12-2008 at 12:02 PM

they went downhill for me with Revenge....
That album doesn't have one good song in my book and to this day I kick myself for paying £15 for it.

couldn't agree more.
in the past i've used the words "a sad watered down parody of themselves" so you can guess i back pretty much everything Jason has said here.

Ramallah is just outrageous.

soooo.
i remember back a ways , when there was that www.whitetrashrob.com site, there was mention of B4B covering Here To Stay by Sheer Terror. What ever became of that one? I thought it was going to be on Serenity when it came out.

SS76 - 5-13-2008 at 06:51 AM

Wish I knew....my ears salivate at the thought.....
