People that are just not into music....

XHonusWagnerX - 5-22-2008 at 01:19 PM

Most of the people I'm at all friendly with at work are not into music at all. I know that there are MILLIONS of people like that, but being someone that has music as a daily part of my life it seems odd.

Its not the hardcore, punk or metal stuff that they dont know because I know that a lot of that is 'underground' or at least kind of obscure.

Like we were talking about Guitar Hero because this kid got it. He said there were almost no songs that he had ever heard in it. He was talking about the shape of the controler and I said "is it a Les Paul' and he looked at me like I was speaking in some martian language.

Its really just stuff I take for granted, but still seems odd sometimes.

oh yeah, that shit always amazes me.

joemaconmovies - 5-22-2008 at 01:31 PM

everyone i talk to is fucking into whatever is hip at the moment, except for my punk/hardcore/indie friends. kinda makes me sick.

Furly - 5-22-2008 at 02:24 PM

I have a boatload of friends that are not into music at all.

One of my bestest buds dosn't listen to any music. At all. When I tell him i'm going to a show he pictures a huge concert with fights everywhere. I think it's funny. We'll be a Newbury Comics and I'll point out a CD that has someone that he's met threw me and he's just amazed.

He's also 28 and has never left New England, and never wants to.

Music has always been a big part of my life.
Most of my closer friends are very into music and I think it is one of the things that help made the bond between us.
My dad isn't into music at all. Never has been. I know of no artist that my dad ever said he liked.
My mom was huge into music, her motown stuff and other music from her younger years. She still spins those old records.
I was just lucky enough to become friends with some people that have a very wide variety of stuff that they enjoy so over the years they've turned me onto plenty of things I wouldn't have heard. I highly doubt I would have ever grown to like reggae if it wasnt' for hanging with them.
It sucks not to be into music in my opinion.

I've been obsessed with music my entire life. I've never understood how people can be indifferent to music. Most of my friends aren't huge music lovers and they think I'm nuts because of the time and money I've invested in music over the years.

I have friends that are really into their shit. I got a lot of straight up metal head friends, straight underground hip hop and even some that just listen to pop punk type bullshit but I also have some that don't bother with music at all. To each their own I say.

people who aren't into music at all creep me the fuck out.

it's like there's several levels

level 1: people like all of us
level 2: people who buy music, but cherry pick, follow the trends or just listen to a genre or artist.
level 3: people who don't buy music, but listen to the radio or appreciate when it's playing at a bar or party etc.
level 4: people who just don't care about music.

joemaconmovies - 5-22-2008 at 06:20 PM

i love how we're all the top level

I have a few friends that think I'm nuts because I'll travel to another city for a show. I flew out to Milwakee (sp?) for the metal fest about 10 years ago. I drove 5 hours to Montreal to see Jello Biafra do a spoken word show. On occasion I've gone to see the same band play five nights in a row. I've done it with the Dayglo Abortions a few times. I'll hit the show in Toronto and the other shows in surrounding cities and towns for a whole week. My friends don't understand how I can do it. Some of them have never been to a single show/concert in their lives, so they can't comprehend how I can see the same bands 5 nights in a row.

JawnDiablo - 5-22-2008 at 07:21 PM

I'm pretty sure that music had a major part in who I was molded into ....or somethin

BKT - 5-22-2008 at 07:51 PM

I have no time for people that are not into music. It seems insane to me. Its like someone telling me they are not into breathing.

MM.

upyerbum - 5-22-2008 at 08:20 PM

People who don't like music have no soul. I mean they literally have no soul.

tireironsaint - 5-22-2008 at 11:48 PM

That's what the major labels and "music industry" have done to the world. They make it appear that the only music out there is this soul sucking, mind numbing pablum that they have force fed to the radio stations, record stores, and all that. Most people never even thought to look past that and find anything real and after they reached a certain point, they lost the ability to even become interested if the most amazing band ever were to set up and play a mind blowing set in their living room.

I try not to get into discussions about music with most people until I have some idea of where they fit on a scale similar to the one laid out by Murk up there. It's depressing and irritating to try to explain the role music has in my life to the people who cannot get it anyway.

I've never understood how someone could not care about music.

See... I know I'm top level because you make a comment about RAMBO and the first thing that comes to mind is the band. :wink1:

MyOwnWay - 5-23-2008 at 09:29 AM

Music has become such a huge part of who I am that its crazy to me, to think of people never listening to music.

CR83 - 5-23-2008 at 10:50 AM

I'd rather be blind then deaf

joemaconmovies - 5-23-2008 at 12:12 PM

if it weren't for music and the people involved in music who are my friends (you guys and all the bands i'm friends with) i'd probably have killed myself by now. it's the one thing that keeps me mildly sane.
