Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

what's the farthest you've ever traveled SPECIFICALLY for a show?

BDx13 - 5-22-2008 at 06:39 PM

growing up on the east coast, my regular-show-going-to territory ranged from nyc to dc.
so at the most, that would have been about 225 miles.

i've been fortunate to catch great shows when i'm out of town for work or vacation, though. not like i traveled for the the show, but at least saw it while i was there.
- caught shane macgowan while in nyc for work from san fran
- caught shane macgowan while in london on vacation from nyc
- caught shane macgowan while in santa cruz fro work from nyc

ok, you caught me, i schedule my life around the toothless one.

upyerbum - 5-22-2008 at 06:56 PM

Drove 10 hours to Portland, Maine to see The Business and DKM.

jonnynewbreed - 5-22-2008 at 07:02 PM

Sailed from halifax to boston to see Laurel Aitken.

joemaconmovies - 5-22-2008 at 07:04 PM

drove from wales, ma to dc to see a bunch of shows (you check the mileage and time on a map)

Murk - 5-22-2008 at 07:21 PM

went to England twice in 2000.

LA is cool because you have:

San Diego 2 hrs
Phoenix 6 hrs
Las Vegas 4 hrs
San Francisco 6 hrs

and everything in between.

Discipline - 5-22-2008 at 07:49 PM

Flew from Toronto to Miluakee for the metal fest.
Flew to Boston to see DKM (scheduled a vacation around seeing the OG lineup at The Rat back in 1997)

Furly - 5-22-2008 at 08:01 PM

I'm in Mass.

Drove to Georgia for an Oi fest.
Flew to Chicago for Provoke's last show.
Caught a few shows in Florida, California and Colorado but they were just cause I happen to be there.

Craziest thing I've ever done to go to a show is I drove straight 26 hours from Florida, got home, showered, went to Worchester for Blood For Blood.

DAK - 5-22-2008 at 08:04 PM

200 miles.

JawnDiablo - 5-22-2008 at 08:16 PM

UD to NY for Sheer Terror funeral and a Joe Coffee gig at CBGB
Suffocation with a friends band in Newark yuk) NJ

MikeCore - 5-22-2008 at 08:26 PM

South Jersey -> Boston for Slapshot 1990.

Lucabrasi - 5-22-2008 at 08:38 PM

I went from VT to Montreal in 2000 to see Rancid at the Metropolis. It was well worth it.

XHonusWagnerX - 5-22-2008 at 09:15 PM

Pawtucket, RI to NYC for Bad Brains.

I think thats the furthest, and one of the only times I've traveled far for a show.... Unless you count Slapshot shows in Maine, Florida, England, Scotland, Spain, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden etc.

SS76 - 5-22-2008 at 09:27 PM

That sounds AMAZING!

SS76 - 5-22-2008 at 09:46 PM

Yeah, it was awesome...wore a white t shirt, came out lookin like I just saw Gwar, only all the splatters were red. They even had a trapdoor in the theater for the cellar scenes, and this dead girl would pop up and throw blood on us.

barc0debaby - 5-22-2008 at 09:48 PM

Drove 45 minutes from the city I live in to the city I used to live in.

BDx13 - 5-22-2008 at 10:07 PM

there's something about FLYING to a show that puts you in a whole different league.
then, there's jonny who FUCKING SAILED A BOAT TO ANOTHER COUNTRY to see a show.

BDx13 - 5-22-2008 at 10:14 PM

oh, i just remembered... in 1997 i flew from nyc to london to see kraftwerk.

XnMeX - 5-22-2008 at 10:24 PM

Total Estimated Time: 13.0 hours 4 minutes Total Estimated Distance: 792.06 miles

Portsmouth New Hampshire to Novi Michigan

Time to reveal where I went wrong in my younger years.....

It was for.......

The gathering of the Juggalos. :umm:

Yeah, hope you guys don't think any less of me. ;)

For those that don't know, it was a 3 day festivle of shows surrounding around Psychopathic Records (AKA: Insane Clown Posse, Twizted, Etc)

Talk about a skeleton in the closet.... but unlike the Korn / Slipknot fans that all of a sudden discover Hardcore or "real" metal and try to ast like they never heard of Korn or Slipknot, I do not hide the fact that I used to be into that shit. Just not somthing I scream from the rooftops. ;)

That was a fun fuckin trip though! Me and my best friend taking turns driving his car and our other 2 friends in another car. One smooth dead stretch thru Canada we road up beside the other car in the oncoming lane and started throwing food at their window.

Evil Dead: The Musical was started in Toronto by college kids. It's a killer time! (pun intended)

Honestly though, it's one of those honestly great shows that you should never pass up.

clevohardcore - 5-22-2008 at 11:22 PM

Erie PA for 108 back in 1995

tireironsaint - 5-22-2008 at 11:30 PM

I've gone back to Austin from Durango, Colorado twice now for the first two years of the Fun Fun Fun Fest. I flew both times and don't wanna bother to look up the mileage, but it's an 18 hour drive, I know that.

Oh, I forgot. Several years back I road tripped from Austin to Madison, Wisconsin for a festival. If I remember correctly, it was called A New Hope. My main reason for going was that Integrity was playing and I was very into them at the time. Best bonus for me was that Bowel ended up playing a set and that shit was hilarious. That must've been '93 or so....

I looked it up and could only find dates in Toronto.
I'm going to keep my eye open to see if it comes back around, I'd love to check it out.

Voodoobillyman - 5-23-2008 at 02:08 AM

Portland Maine to NJ for Mr Bungle.

Six66Mike - 5-23-2008 at 02:11 AM

St. Catharines to London would have topped my list, 191km or 118m to see Blacklisted. Other than that Toronto was only 100km away and I went there all the time and Buffalo was closer, only 29 miles.

panzerkreuzer - 5-23-2008 at 04:21 AM

500 miles to see kiss in 99 with their 3d show
flew to madrid to see the inciters
400 miles to berlin to see s.o.i.a.
next month i fly to dublin to see flogging molly
once a year i visit a festival about 400 miles away.4 days of hardcore, metal, bbq and beer.this year with slapshot!!
normally i go to shows in an area of 100 miles from home.

mattybar - 5-23-2008 at 05:17 AM

London to New York for the Sheer Terror reunion.

Dave - 5-23-2008 at 06:13 AM

Halifax ---> NYC to see the Pogues.

something like 18 hours of driving.

jonnynewbreed - 5-23-2008 at 06:25 AM

yeah but Dave and Brian and I have driven to Toronto (22 hours drive) to play one show. I think that probably wins it.

Jason the Magnificent - 5-23-2008 at 08:02 AM

from Chicago to Albany for Dying Breed, 100 Demons, Ringworm and Death Threat

or

from Chicago to Framingham, MA for that last back to school jam with slapshot and stars and stripes (of which we saw maybe 10 minutes total of bands all day because we got smashed in the chinese restaurant across the street in the bar downing scorpion bowls.)

That show started super early. tons of people didn't show up to closer to the end.

Jason the Magnificent - 5-23-2008 at 01:13 PM

We got there at the beginning, watched 2 or 3 songs from whatever band then wandered off to find somthing for grown ups to do. Discovered the place with the scorpion bowls and stayed there like 8 hours. Think we went in to see 2 songs from blood for blood and maybe 3 from slapshot.

CR83 - 5-23-2008 at 01:33 PM

STL to KC for Blood For Blood. It was amazing. It was only 286 miles though.

Yeah, I was one of the people that showed up late and I was quite pissed. Got to see Blood for Blood which was my main concern. Stars & Stripes was fuckin awesome as well. I also snagged me a "Ramallah: But a Whimper" poster they made for that one day only to sell the cd at the B9 table... Still on my wall.
