Any of you spent any time in Greece? I'll be leaving next Monday, the 16th, and be over there for a month. I'm actually going to be a nanny and will be spending most of my time in the Peloponnese, but am going to try to sneak away to Athens or something for a weekend solo.

If you know of anything exciting in those parts, let me know.

And if you don't hear from me for a while, now you know why. :spin:

The one thing I'm looking forward to more than anything is meeting one of my grandpa's very very distant cousins. Both of his parents were from that area, came to the states before he was born, so I'll be learning their history.

A cousin, that I had never met. She's 63, loaded, never married, retired, adopted a kid who is now 8. Owns a house over there, lives in PA. The 2 of them go over there every summer for a month and bring someone to be a nanny. She heard threw word of the family that I was my grandpas care taker as he got sick, and my grams, who has alzhimers (lived with me till last month), invited me to go.

I went down to meet her a couple months ago for the first time.

My cousin and I have NOTHING in common. She is very straight laced prim and proper.

I'll be watching a cute little girl that is "freaked out" by my tattoos and has never been exposed to someone as "weird" as me. (her words)

It'll be quite the experience.

I can't claim I know much about Greece but sounds like you should have fun. Worse comes to worse its an opportunity to wapr the mind of a young child. Thats always fun.

I've been to Souda Bay, Crete. ALOT of fun. Unfortunately way south of you and actually an island, but if you get a chance to go there without the little lady in tow, check out club 5. Real sleezy strip joint :) Eat lots of Gyros and drink some Oozo, the real stuff. Enjoy

Where in PA?
Upper Darby, where I live used to have the largest Greek population in the country. That was until all the homes got section 8ed and the crazy black kids moving in scared everyone out of the area.

She lives in Wallingford right now, but is looking to buy a house in Upper Darby. Her parents (my grandpas sister and her husband) have lived there for many years. My great Aunt was a school teacher, and Uncle (so I hear) a very well respected preist. They moved down there 60 years ago for the Greeks, and to get away from what was becoming a 'slum' here in Haverhill MA.
While I was down there I heard ALL about the blacks moving in and it becoming a slum also.

I HATE Oozo! but ofcourse, if that's all they got, I'll deal. :)

I would love to check out a strip joint over there. I'm all about the sleeze.

I know there's a town there that bears my name. My "grandfather" was from Ithaca.
