Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

the sound of philadelphia...

REV.PAULIE - 7-25-2008 at 07:16 PM

is the air conditioning cooling down my pretty fucking swank hotel room at the Crowne Plaza on Market St. ....

the promoters for my spoken word gig, tomorrow, have really outdone themselves...

2 nights of realative luxury (for me,anyways...)...

it's good to be the king.

"the sound of philadelphia, gunshots and gritty beats, come along with me, hear my city speak, it's talking to you, it's giving you a heads up, saying niggas round here is gettin fed up"

Sorry, couldn't help myself.

xChino_Martinezx - 7-25-2008 at 09:34 PM

sounds good, man, enjoy it! and good luck tomorrow!

Lucabrasi - 7-25-2008 at 09:40 PM

gavin - 7-26-2008 at 01:27 AM

bombidol - 7-26-2008 at 11:36 AM

honestly there isnt one cool thing about it
in the late 80s, yes, there were tons of cool stores
now.............not one

JawnDiablo - 7-26-2008 at 12:20 PM

I hit South Street a few years ago and I wish I hadn't.
It sucked.
All the good stores are gona and replaced by CVS, the gap, and mcdonalds.
South Street can suck a Jims Steak out of my dirty ass crack.

The best thing about South St is the Relapse Records Store and Cue Records for hip hop.

LOL........I don't live anywhere near there any more and even if I did why would I pay to see someone I could give two shits about? Legend or not I never liked your band or what you had to say. You came on here and disrespected us so you will get that in return. Turn off the caps lock dude. I'll just do the same thing I did the last time I saw your band at the TLA in '93 and just stand in the back and ignore you until SOIA comes on :umm:

DAK - 7-27-2008 at 03:09 PM

Damn I passed by there when I had jury duty at the end of June, thought it was still open. That sucks. One less reason to go to South St.

bombidol - 7-27-2008 at 06:50 PM

ah SS was ok, im sure it was better back in the day but where wasnt? Id never been to philly before and was told to head in that direction for the day we were there. Had fun just wandering around.

If you come to Philly again you need to hit up the essentials:
Mutter Museum (best tourist spot in Philly, but then again I like weird shit)
Franklin Institute
Liberty Bell
Independence Hall
Reading Market (if you're looking to eat or spend some cash)

gavin - 7-27-2008 at 10:20 PM

i couldnt get out of work
one of the dudes went home sick at 6 leaving just me and brian on a sat night on south street
im sorry i missed this more than anything else because i wanted to support paul doing this
in my opinion it takes guts to do this sort of thing
even more so then doing a band
im glad it sounds like it went well

mike core, relax yourself dude
and dont speak for "the board" please

and before anyone thinks im suckin pauls dick, i aint
im the last person to be impressed by or to dick suck someone because of "who they are"
people who know me (duane or quinn) will back me up on that i think
i just know who to respect for the things they have done and continue to do
big difference

im finding im relating less and less to some of the things said on this boards sometimes
im sure its me

XHonusWagnerX - 7-27-2008 at 10:36 PM

im shutting up and waiting for the internet release.

JawnDiablo - 7-27-2008 at 10:52 PM

I also didn't make it down, and I was really looking forward to it.
Undoubtedly I'm probably one of the biggest Sheer Terror / Joe Coffee retards in the Philly area. Family matters kept me from getting down there. I tried to make arrangements but it wasn't happening. I did however buy a ticket online, just didn't make it down.
If it ever happens again, you can be sure I'll be there.

REV.PAULIE - 7-28-2008 at 01:37 AM

ya know what - i'll apologize for what i posted.

i was stinking drunk when i wrote it,and for someone who was honestly in a really good mood - i got really mad,and i don't know why.

i gotta stop going on the internet, drunk.

to those offended, you have my humblest of apologies.

except "mikecore"...

you can just suck it dry.

bombidol - 7-28-2008 at 04:19 AM

Yeah we just had no time to be honest. A certain someone well known in the "scene" fucked us over and we were left stranded in Philly with no gig. So we just parked up around SS and went walking. We didnt stick to just that street, we wandered all over the place. We ate in a few different places then we ended up at some fucking motel out by the airport. That night 3 of us hopped in a cab and headed back to the general SS area to get our drink on. We ended up in some pirate bar? Makos or something like that? on the corner. We got fucking destroyed drunk and caused some hassle with some locals and Jersey girls.
On the Rev front. I live in Dublin, but no doubt if I was in or near Philly on the night I would have headed to the show for sure. Yo, Rev is OG and talks about "current" punks and HC people in a certain way. You ever meet John Joesph or read his book? He does the exact same way. Dont take it personal. Anyway its the internet. We are all saps for wasting time on here.

gavin - 7-28-2008 at 04:25 AM

there's a fight in makos every night

bombidol - 7-28-2008 at 05:22 AM

There was some psycho black dude on a skateboard in there with a prostitute. INSANE.

JawnDiablo - 7-28-2008 at 06:41 AM

Hey Geoff sounds like he just described Chris Moody to a tee.....
I was in Makos once and yeah that place seems to be a magnet for over the bridge types who have expensive bikes they ride once a week and don their harley costumes for the day.

bombidol - 7-28-2008 at 07:11 AM

1 dollar high lifes though. That will do.

JawnDiablo - 7-28-2008 at 07:16 AM

you're right/
$1 beers would have me sold too!

necrobutcher - 7-29-2008 at 09:26 PM

I got down there on Saturday with two of my friends. Goddamn good time. As for a review, here are a few quick points of my head:

1. I liked the fact Paul Bearer spoke quite a bit about his personal life and was honest about some things that are kind of personal issues. As much as I enjoy hearing about Sheer Terror, I never knew too much about the man himself.

2. The gentleman has a tendency to go off on tangents, as he pointed out. Not a bad thing but I lost him a few times.

3. Damn he can drink bourbon like a champ. A small bottle of Maker's Mark in about 2 hours and still coherent.

4. I was expecting quite a bit of ballbusting but it was more of a laid back atmosphere. At first during Q and A I was nervous to ask a question but by the end I was firing them off.

5. There was no bitterness towards the past and a remarkably good sense of humor.

I hope to see Paul Bearer speak again. If you read this, Paul, thank you for the bourbon by the way.

Discipline - 7-29-2008 at 09:41 PM

I want to see/hear this sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo fucking bad. You have no idea.

I'm really pissed I missed this.
even moreso now after Necro's review.

REV.PAULIE - 7-30-2008 at 06:15 AM

thank you for your kind words, and review...it felt really good to communicate on such a personal level without the loving aid of a musical backing...i want to do this more often, and i will promise - to whomever that is interested,as well as myself - to look at those avenues that could lead me there...

and, you're welcome to my bourbon...as are all of you that partake in such libations...

my great friend, joe, who filmed the night will be editing the footage alongside me for it to be posted on the internet for all to watch, learn, laugh, cry,or hate on me all they damned well please...

it was a great night, and i'm happy to hear that you enjoyed it...
