Douche of a landlord

DaveMoral - 7-28-2008 at 08:24 PM

So we got a letter in the mail today from our old landlord telling us we aren't getting our security deposit back because ofa list ofa bunch of stuff that was already there when we moved into the fucking place. Literally.

Ancient hardwood floors from like the 30s that was all scratched up and everything. Dude is blaming us for that. Even blaming us for the black mold problem in the fucking bathroom! The very problem we had to hassle him about to get a goddamn exhaust fan installed in there!

Anyone wanna muscle this son of a bitch for me?

take the caps off your curtain rods, stuff them with shrimp, and replace. He'll tear the place apart looking for the source of the stink.

Luckily we don't have to pay those in Ontario. Just to be safe, in my last apartment I made a list of anything that was fucked up when I moved in and had the super look it over and sign it.

ALLWAYS a good idea.

My landlord is cool shit. Found out he is related to these 4 girls I grew up with and that I used to buy comic books off of him at a flea market when I was like 10 years old.

yes, indeed, always a great idea, even if posible, take pictures of every thing you find fucked up... a picture always says more than a thousand words...

Yeah, wish I woulda taken pix when I moved in. Took them on the way out. We're going to contact the original landlord that first rented the place to us. This asshole is trying to come off like he saw the place when we fucking moved in. I didn't hear of him or see him around until 6 months AFTER we moved in.

I think dude thinks I won't do anything since I'm on the other side of the country. How wrong he is. He just doesn't want to play for the fix-ups that need to be done regardless because he's moving into my old apartment.

how much?
i say fight it.
at least negotiate getting something back.

DaveMoral - 7-29-2008 at 02:44 AM

$725 plus whatever interest was accrued from it being in a savings account.

I'm going to be all over this dude's ass. The previous owner that we originally rented from, PA Attorney General, Philly Housing Authority... whoever I can get. Even if I lose this motherfucker is going to know that I was gunning for him.

BDx13 - 7-29-2008 at 10:19 AM

do you have a formal list from the current owner of what he says the damages are?

can you get your previous landlord to state in writing that these were known problems when HE originally rented you the place? if so, present that to the current owner and insist on him sending your $725 (you won't see the interest).

if he refuses, let him know you're not afraid to take him to court and remind him that you have a witness that supports your claims (and that, as a man of principle, you ABSOLUTELY will take him to court).

I have a list, and that's the plan.

I knew this snivveling douche would try to pull some shit like this the day that some nutball lady who was supposed to be helping us find a nice home for a stray on our porch stole the cat a few weeks before we moved, and blamed us for her doing it. Then he tried to get on us for not leaving OUR curtains behind because his wife said we "would" after she told us she'd think about if she even wanted them and never got back to us.

he's the new owner of the building? then as a lawyer, he should know right from wrong and should be ashamed of himself for trying to rip off hard-working people. don't give up dave!

Lawyers are scum.
Most Landlords are scum.
Most I've rented off of.
Remember that DRI song Slumlord.
