Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

Going to be gone for a while.

I had been into some real heavy drinking the last few months mostly being cause by untreated mental/emotional problems. The severity of these issues had rapidly gotten worse lately. I started having panic attacks at work earlier this week and by friday was close to having a complete breakdown. Well after having far to much to drink at the bar friday night I ended up snorting some coke and a coworker reported me. I'm hoping this turns out to be a blessing in disguise, certainly not the way I wanted to leave the military and the whole process is going to be a nightmare. I'm trying to stay optimistic, as I am finally going to get the help I need to get myself healthy.

Shit, that sucks. But you've got the right attitude about things... best to try and take care of the underlying cause of the problems. Best of luck with everything.

hang in there bro...
the military has a lot of good programs to help with depression and addiction...
just be honest with yourself, and honest with those who try to help.

good luck man, things usually have a way of working themselves out.

upyerbum - 9-1-2008 at 12:07 PM

I got my ass kicked out of the service too, my story was a drinking binge that ended in Texas, and the military doesn't like unofficial vacations. I took my licks, and it eventually led to me facing my demons. That was 11 years ago, and ended up being the best thing that could have happenned to me, although it certainly didn't feel like it at the time. Hang in there man, and when you come out the other side, you will be a better man for it, and you can carry on your life.

xChino_Martinezx - 9-1-2008 at 04:36 PM

I hope it all works out the best for you, man... you can defeat this, take care of yourself and keep your head up!

Me too. 11 years exactly, though not drug or alcohol related. These things do have a way of working themselves out. Good luck.

I'm hoping rehab is being done instead of a discharge, too. (Hopefully not just wishful thinking on my part). Stay strong.
