We have a place just north of St. Louis on the Mississippi that was flooded a few months ago. We are currently rebuilding the house thanks to
insurance. Should take a few months.
We have been able to put our dock and pontoon boat on the river. We are taking some friends up Sunday and my buddy from my neighborhood loves to eat
gar so we are going to fish for them.
Gar have no natural predators where we are so there's no "limit". They are nasty fucking things too. My friend likes to removed the muscle that runs
parallel to their spine. He's says it is amazing fish meat. I'm stoked because these things fight like hell and are really mean. You need tin snips
to get through their scales when you "clean" them. I'll be honest, I'm pretty scared of these things so handling them is pretty exciting and creepy
Here's a few vids on Gar. We won't catch one over 30 inches:

The skin and scales sound like a shell when he's snipping it.

Hmm... It would appear that there is a different definition of gar fishing down here. It usually involves a semi-auto rifle or whatever firearm
happens to be handy.

We wound up catching Catfish and Drum. My daughter (who is 4) landed her very first fish. SHE LOVED IT. We cleaned a few up and ate them. I'm no a
big fish eater at all but she was stoked. She supervised me cleaning them. We caught about 12 fish, kept two. It was perfect weather and she was
just so thrilled. She was jumping up and down and yelling she was so excited.
When we got back to our dock, there were two good sized Gar just hanging out. We didn't have time to go after them. We'll get 'em.
