Spent a couple of days in the hospital before they discharged me. Looking for some long term help at the moment, it's just been a bitch trying to get it set up. Thanks for all the good tidings.

i mean, is this covered by insurance or out of your pocket?
how do these facilities assess an individuals needs?
i mean, do you need a referral from a general practitioner or psych doc or can you walk right in?

It's covered by Ontario's health plan. For the place I'm going you generally need a referral from a social worker, psychologist, etc. It's usually more than a family doctor can cover with a referral. If you feel it's an emergancy situation they do have an emergency check in where you can walk in. I was initially referred to these people by workers comp for an assessment 5-6 weeks a go, but they're still going over the results. When you check in there you work with a team of people including a social worker, psychologist, psychiatrist, and in my case an occupational therapist and an anger management counsellor. The other bonus is it's all one on one. I told them when I first went there to be assessed that the worst possible thing they could do is stick me into a group therapy situation because I would get hostile in about 10 seconds.

praise socialized medicine becasue if you were in the states, you couldn't get help at all without major insurance...
and it sucks because there are a ton of people here who need help.
