Honest question: do you consider Entombed a death metal band?

Voodoobillyman - 11-7-2008 at 09:52 AM

Voodoo glow skulls
Leftover crack
Los Kung Fu Monkeys
Nino Zombi

Huge Death Ska mood this week

MarkV, how would you "classify" Entombed?

SS76 - 11-7-2008 at 10:22 AM

I like the term death n roll...it fits.

MarkV - 11-7-2008 at 10:27 AM

Dunno, to be honest. Death ska maybe? haha

They've been diverse enough that it's hard to nail down. Plus, they influenced so many genres, that I feel it's hard to classify them, without referencing something they spawned I guess.

Voodoobillyman - 11-7-2008 at 10:29 AM

I always think of death metal or thrash when I think of entombed

Voodoobillyman - 11-7-2008 at 10:37 AM

Yeah, death ska is the only thing that pops into mind for that crack rock steady stuff:bigsmile:

MarkV - 11-7-2008 at 10:46 AM

See, I don't consider myself a death metal fan per say, but love them, thus the question.

panzerkreuzer - 11-7-2008 at 10:59 AM

it´s all rock `n roll as lemmy said.

BDx13 - 11-7-2008 at 11:16 AM

used to be they were considered grind.
but wolverine blues we probably the last thing i bought from them.
clandestine is my all time favorite. god damn, that's a good record.

JawnDiablo - 11-7-2008 at 11:31 AM

Left Hand Path is possibly one of the most solid Earache releases ever for me.
I still love it even (gasp) 18 years later...

Clandestine was an AMAZING album. I wish I had that one again. That would take me back. That was the album that got me into them.

Another very solid release by them. It can't fuck with the song Stranger Aeons though. That beginning is so tight.

Discipline - 11-7-2008 at 03:41 PM

My favorite Entombed release was the Out of Hand single. Three badass fucking tracks. For full lengths my favorite is To Ride, Shoot Straight, & Speak the Truth. That album is all kinds of awesome.

Not anymore. The first two albums were pure death metal. Then they got all fucked up and started to put out rubbish.

Holy shit I am loving Hail of Bullets. Just bought Of Frost and War.

Thanks again.

MM,
Check out Death Breath, it's some Entombed guys...good shit.

Don't know that Entombed was ever grind, I would say everything up to and including Clandestine was just standard issue early 90's earache death. Left Hand Path is good, I just thing its kind of mediocre when compared to Clandestine in a songwriting sense.

Check out Cardiac Arrest - Cadaverous Presence...killer death/grind from the Chicago area.

BKT - 11-7-2008 at 04:38 PM

Ya I have some stuff by Death Breath. Those guys are the shit. I also would agree that Clandestine is Entombed's best album and one of the best death metal albums ever written.

MM.

SS76 - 11-7-2008 at 04:39 PM

Hail of bullets are really good....sounds like Soulless era Grave mixed with Entombed.

JawnDiablo - 11-7-2008 at 04:49 PM

I need to check some of these.
i havent heard jack since wolverine blues

no way. they put out some awesome metal, call it whatever you want. listen to demon, chief rebel angel.... they released so many great songs i can´t count. it`s just no death metal anymore. it´s death n roll :)
death breath are a great project, too, unfortunately they play hardly a show, but their records rule.

all you guys should check oput evocation, they sound like the first two entombed records...and trap them, they are the hc version of entombed.

I really really like pretty much everything they've done, including the more modern "death n roll" stuff.
