Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

A Bridge Too Far

Just finished watching this for what must be at least the 20th time. My favorite WW2 movie, and one of my favorite war movies in general. Such an awesome flick. Everybody should watch this movie or read the book that it's based on, as it's a true story that is incredibly fascinating.

Years ago my band played Holland at the Wilhelm II club in Arnhem.
After we loaded in and soundchecked, the promoter told us we had a few hours before doors opened and asked us if there was anything we wanted to do.
The first thing I said was "Where's the bridge?"

We walked to the rebuilt bridge and saw some of the memorials
The bridge is named the John Frost bridge, after the British colonel who commanded the paras at the bridge during Operation market garden.

near that bridge is a big soldier cemetary and a cool museum. if any of you make it there, visit both.

@topic: impressive movie.

One of the best ever. I have it on DVD. That was the first and last movie my father ever took me to. I was 8 years old in 1977 when it was released.

Some other top notch movies:

Bridge over the River Kwai
We were Soldiers
The Longest Day
Flags of our Fathers
Patton
Zulu (the 1964 one)
Apocalypse Now
Glory
The Great Escape
The Dirty Dozen
The Big Red One
Guns of Navarone
Tora! Tora! Tora!
The Desert Fox
Battle of the Bulge
Kelly's Heroes
Enemy at the Gates

All great flicks, especially Glory and The Dirty Dozen. I'll have to check out the other ones you mentioned. I've heard great things about Tora! Tora! Tora! but haven't seen it yet.

When I was first posted to the Airborne, we had to stand up and sing the whole song in front of the entire mess. It was written by Paul Anka, believe it or not.
