my iPod is making a 'clicking' sound

XHonusWagnerX - 11-14-2008 at 10:24 AM

This morning didnt start off very good. I dropped my iPod on the kitchen floor. I turned it on right away and it seemed okay, but when I got in the car and tried to use it it was locked up and doing nothing. I did the 'hard reset' and all I got screen with a frowning face that says www.Apple.com/support/ipod

No matter what I try to do with it that screen comes up and its makes a clicking sound. I'm assuming that when anything with a harddrive in it makes a clicking sound its pretty bad.

Today sucks.

I'd say a frowning face on an IPOD is not a good sign. I hope things pick up, but today is not so "youthcrew" for me either.

i think mine did that and i bought a new one a few years later

JawnDiablo - 11-14-2008 at 10:32 AM

my sons ipod is all screwed up.
nothing on apples webpage helped me.
i really dont want to go to the mall to the apple store just cause it's way out of the way.
his was a freebee from baseball for raising the most money in a hatathon, so it's not like it's a loss though...

XHonusWagnerX - 11-14-2008 at 10:33 AM

I'm gonna take it to the Apple store, but I dont expect it to do anything. I just need to find the cheapest place to get a new one because I cant spend 18 days on a bus and a total of 14-15 hours on plane with no iPod. Not exactly something I want to spend money on right before Christmas.... oh well....

clevohardcore - 11-14-2008 at 10:40 AM

My local record store sells them used. Try a place like that.

at least you still have your iPhone?

fill it up to the brim and use it in airplane mode so you don't get the insane euro charges.

or, see if you can borrow someones. buying one close to X-Mas sucks.

I just transferred all my 30 gig files over to my 80 gig. It took me about 3 days of solid free time to copy and paste all the music into folders and then reload on to the new player. it was worth it though. Now I am loading the 30G with music my wife digs and am going to give it to her. I currently have 13286 tunes on my 80G and have at least 10 gigs to go. i love my Ipod. Josh, I am sorry to hear about your misfortune, I would be lost without my player these days.

yeah I have my phone, but I wouldnt even know where to begin when youre talking about only 8 gigs compared to the 80 gig iPod I had.

I'm gonna goto the Applestore tomorrow and see what they say about mine and then decide what to do as far as borrowing or replacing. We'll see!

If it's under warranty, they'll probably replace it... so you get a refurbished ipod (good for you) but lose the old hard drive with all your music (very bad for you). If you've got it on a hard drive (internal or external), no big deal, since you can load everything onto the new ipod.

Otherwise, it looks like Six66Mike will help you find some replacements. ;)

I have the stuff on my computer so its not a big deal. I'm not sure if its under warranty or not. I guess they will tell me at the store.

One piece of advice... when an Apple "genius" tells you to go schedule an appointment on an open computer and come back later (as in three days later, when the first open appointment is available), stare him in the face like you're gonna punch him if he repeats that again. It makes the process run much smoother. I picked up my Macbook with a replacement hard drive about 3 hours before my scheduled appointment (when they would have diagnosed - and then taken three more days to fix - the fact that the shitty HD in Macbooks was shot in mine just like tons of others).

yup its in a case. its a hard plastic case which has protected it very well (until today) because when I took it out of the case it literally looks brand new. I guess the problem was that the case has no shock resistance to it.

Thanks for the advice Random

Mine did that a few years back. Harddrive had cracked over time.
