Friday's beers

SS76 - 12-5-2008 at 06:14 PM

southern tier choklate stout- incredible
rogue chipotle ale- unique as fuck, smoky peppery taste
southern tier old man winter ale- goin down smooth so far for an 8%

BDx13 - 12-5-2008 at 06:52 PM

I picked up a sampler from Lancaster Brewing Company yesterday.
http://www.lancasterbrewing.com

I had an Amish Four-Grain Pale Ale with lunch. Not bad. The Strawberry Wheat is up next, followed by the Milk Stout. I'm avoiding the Hop Hog for now, but will probably have one tomorrow.

ShawnRefuse - 12-5-2008 at 06:54 PM

I am going to be drinking Long Trail Double Bag.

mmmmmmmmmm

Voodoobillyman - 12-5-2008 at 07:40 PM

I picked up a magic hat sampler tonight, diggin it so far

DAK - 12-5-2008 at 07:42 PM

I had some Xingu black beer from BraZIL last weekend.

ShawnRefuse - 12-5-2008 at 08:13 PM

just tapped into the Captain. Woot.

I know mixing is bad but it only makes me sick when I have the milky goodness of Guinness.

Sucks being at work so late :D

morgan - 12-5-2008 at 08:44 PM

No beer tonight... yet. Right now Its a Hot Damn night. Had a bottle of the regular and one of the 100, both were about half empty so I poured both into one.

JawnDiablo - 12-5-2008 at 09:27 PM

slumming wth Yuengling Lord Chesterfield Ale..but I love the stuff.
and Bubba burgers

BDx13 - 12-5-2008 at 09:46 PM

juan, tell me more about the bubba burger.

the lancaster strawberry wheat was a good wheat bear - quite tasty, actually - but not at all strawberry-y (which is a good thing in my book).

moving on to the milk stout in a minute, then working to finish a bottle the captain before crashing.

JawnDiablo - 12-5-2008 at 09:49 PM

Bubbas are a pretty good frozen burger available in most supermarkets for a modest fee.
1/3 lb pattys.
me and junior both enjoyed one and are contemplating another each.
he's an eater.

random - 12-5-2008 at 09:53 PM

Just finished a paper. 12-pack of Guinness in the fridge. Watching live MMA on sherdog.com right now.

DAK - 12-6-2008 at 01:41 AM

How was the milk stout?? Sounds good.

BDx13 - 12-8-2008 at 08:13 AM

the milk stout was good. i didn't get to it until a party we had on saturday night, so i wasn't paying close attention, but it was good. next time i have one, i'll post it anything noteworthy strikes me.

i also had the hop hog that night. wasn't terrible (i don't like hoppy beers). definitely not as hoppy as the victory hop devil.

DAK - 12-10-2008 at 12:12 AM

I don't care for hoppy beers either. I like roasted beers.

DAK - 12-10-2008 at 12:15 AM

They don't sell the landcaster beers down here.

BDx13 - 12-10-2008 at 11:41 AM

i just checked their site, dak.
looks like lancaster is only distributed in nj, pa, de and va.

wasn't this discussed on the board before? can i mail beer to tx?

our friends that came up from baltimore for the party are big beer fans, so i sent them home with a 12 pack of the sampler.

DAK - 12-10-2008 at 12:01 PM

I guess I'll have to hire Burt Reynolds to make a beer run.

joey - 12-11-2008 at 11:34 PM

i will be drinking samuel smiths imperial stout and maybe some oatmeal stout

BDx13 - 12-12-2008 at 01:22 AM

i had some s.s. oatmeal stout about two weeks ago while out to dinner with the family.
delicious.
four or five went down no problem.

BDx13 - 12-12-2008 at 08:21 PM

my mouth has been calling for the victory golden monkey since i picked up the sampler a few weeks back, so i stopped and picked up a case after chopping down my christmas tree tonight. working on my first now.

ABOUT
Strong and sensual, this golden, Belgian-style ale glows with goodness. The richness of German malts and Belgian yeast are tempered by a sparkling approach and overall light body. Considerable depth of character with abundant herbal, fruity notes make this one to savor.

Silver Medal: International Beer Competition, London 2004

COMPOSITION
Malts: 2 row German malt
Hops: European whole flowers
Yeast: imported, of Belgian origin
Alcohol by volume: 9.5%

random - 12-12-2008 at 08:34 PM

Stella Artois on super sale at the store. Two 4-packs of tall boys for 4 GBP. I love how this crap is considered a fancy import in the US which is sometimes poured into its own fancy glass because of how high-brow it is, but here it's the equivalent of Budweiser (which, of course, is an overpriced import here) or some other shitty domestic.

SS76 - 12-12-2008 at 09:24 PM

Leinenkugel Fireside Nut Brown.

Hey BD. How much does a 6 pack of the Monkey cost there. They wanted 12 dollars for a 6 pack here.

BDx13 - 12-17-2008 at 03:51 PM

a case cost me $40.

DAK - 12-17-2008 at 04:22 PM

Well 12 bucks for a 6 pack is just too much for me, since I haven't tasted it.
I bought:
Xingu Black Beer from Brazil
Youngs Double Chocolate Stout
Dundee Original Honey Brown Lager
Paulaner Salvator Double Bock

BDx13 - 12-17-2008 at 04:55 PM

BDx13 - 1-9-2009 at 07:08 PM

That's the first time and it was great. I went back to the store today and bought 2 more bottles. And the Shiner 100 Commemerator came out today. It's the 100 anniversary Stark/ Dopplebock.

DAK - 1-11-2009 at 05:25 PM

Todays beer is Shiner 100 Commemorator. Not bad, taste like the Paulaner Salvator Double Bock. But not as strong at 6.7 ABV.

JawnDiablo - 1-12-2009 at 12:21 AM

Dak,
what a wicked selection of beers.
i'm jealous.
I had Xingu years ago.
the place that had it burnt down a few months ago.
once the mafia rebuild,
im lookin for some of these .
Geoff, yes, Civeras burnt down...

Jason the Magnificent - 1-12-2009 at 07:25 AM

on draft...18% abv

JawnDiablo - 1-12-2009 at 08:25 AM

i saw that in a beer magazine.
is it good?

Jason the Magnificent - 1-12-2009 at 09:35 AM

yep, very good. not as 'thick' as you'd assume for a stout of that abv as imperial stouts tend to be a bit heavier, real nice alcohol warming afterwards.

also had some Three Floyds Black Sun stout on draft, amazing stuff.

it was the 3F breweries brew pub.

I have 2 amazing breweries within an hour of my house, one west 'Two Brothers' and one east "Three Floyds' that both have brew pubs attached to the brewery proper serving really good grub along with some of the freshest beer from 2 great small brewers.

Not sure if 2B is outside of the midwest right now, but I would think 3F should be available in small quantities everywhere. Their imperial stout 'Dark Lord' is the stuff of legend, check out the lines to get it the ONE day a year its available (top video).

http://www.3floyds.com/?page_id=136

If you get a chance I'd recommend trying either of these breweries beers.
