(franklo... i'm thinking about taking sadie to one of these early shows to see uncle rennie live. depends what time they go on. she'll be almost five...that doesn't seem TOO inappropriate!)

If you haven't heard Starkweather's latest album, check out their myspace page and listen to Wilding. It's the last track from Croatoan and my absolute favorite, although it took the longest for me to come around to (I often struggle with the 'singing' parts of new tracks).

I'd say its a signature Starkweather track - it's long, it's diverse and it builds forever before its crushing climax.

any idea how many people were there?

they played a lot of old stuff, too. songs they swore off over a decade ago. i know they really wanted to give slc a good show, so they relearned songs from the first two albums.

Starkweather quickly became one of my favorite bands recently. "Crossbearer" might be one of the heaviest albums ever... I wish I could make it out to see them.

BD, i listen to recent stark album almost daily. Not sure how many
people went, alot of fans have been waiting 10+yrs to see them.So i imagine it was a good sized crowd.Honestly never
understood why they werent the biggest thing on the east coast.

he's guessing there may have been as many as 350 people at the show.
"It was bugged out."

franklo and i and a few others here were fortunate to have come up seeing starkweather regularly, as we were all friends from the philadelphia area. i don't think it would be an exaggeration to say i saw them 20 times between 1990 and 1995.

the other cool thing (for their fans, if not for the band) was that back they didn't fit squarely in the metal genre or the hardcore genre, so you'd often see them with wildly different bands. (needless to say, the metal fans didn't know what to make of all the swinging and kicking we brought to the dance floor!) i thank starkweather for getting out to see bands like crisis, all out war and darkside nyc that i probably wouldn't have seen otherwise.

That is awesome. I'm younger than most of you guys and live in the middle of nowhere, so I haven't gotten to see many of my favorite bands... I'm way jealous.

Favorite Starkweather song(s)? I'm going with "Tumult" and "Picture it Obsidian"

The promoters mentioned 400 people in attendance on their blog.

Set list is below. They played half of Crossbearer, which blows my mind. That record came out in 94 and they probably haven't played anything off of it in six or seven years.

- Bitterfrost (Croatoan)
- The Rift (Crossbearer)
- Machine Rhythm Confessional (Croatoan)
- Lazarus Runs (Crossbearer)
- Epiphany (unreleased)
- Mean Streets (Crossbearer)
- Broken From Inside (unreleased)
- Silken Garotte / The Infinity Coil (Croatoan)
- Above The Rafters (Crossbearer)
- Murder In Technicolor (Crossbearer & Into The Wire)

Love this band.

And BD, it also took me awhile to get used to the singing as well but it did grow on me.
