trees

JawnDiablo - 12-12-2008 at 04:15 PM

for those of us who do the whole Christmas thing....what do you have?

Enyo - 12-12-2008 at 04:18 PM

We actually have a couple different fake trees. Next year we'll probably have some kiddos in the house so we'll get a live one.

SS76 - 12-12-2008 at 04:28 PM

no kids=no need.

BDx13 - 12-12-2008 at 04:33 PM

live.
as long as my wife and i have lived together, we've had a live tree.
even in out 10'x17' studio in manhattan.
this will be out third christmas in the country, and my third year cutting down our tree.

clevohardcore - 12-12-2008 at 04:34 PM

When our boy was born we went out and bought a really nice tree from Sears that is pre-lit with white lights. Still spent a pretty penny on it, and that was after Christmas when they mark them down 50% and sometimes 75%. If your looking for one wait it out. You will save a ton by toughing it out this year and buying the first week in January. Seriously, it will save you bread and get you a great tree you normally might not spend your money on. I think I spent $100. on a tree that was $299. or something. Its easy to put together and it stands 7 1/2 foot.

BDx13 - 12-12-2008 at 04:35 PM

clevo, is it convincing?

JawnDiablo - 12-12-2008 at 04:39 PM

my parents always had fake ones most of the time.
maybe a few years in there they had a real one in between fake ones.
we've had real ones in our place and are going out for one on sunday.
BD, I like the idea of chopping one down yourself.

Discipline - 12-12-2008 at 04:44 PM

When I was a kid my folks would get a real tree, then they bought a fake one when I was about 11-12 and my mom's been using it ever since. I could care less as I'm not a Christmas person.

^^^^^^^ huh? I had to correct it too. The tree is 7 1/2 tall. No mess and easy to put up. Although. I think I would like to do what you are doing. Something cool about getting your own from your property and decorating it. Plus it would probably smell good in the house.

When I was a kid we always bought one and it was always a mess. water the shit out of it and the dog would always drink the water. IT was a bitch getting your gifts and getting stabbed by your tree at the same time.

Enyo - 12-12-2008 at 04:49 PM

My parents always bought the live trees with the root balls attached. So we had a lot of pine trees in our yard. Great for climbing.

When I was younger we put up a silver tree (that was actually used since my pops was a youngin') with spikey little things so by the time it was up and decorated we had little cuts all over our hands.

Now I have a 3 foot fake one that is covered in spiders, bats and sculls (I buy my decorations right after Halloween on clearence). It's cute.
And all the gifts under it has different wrapping paper. (which I also buy on clearence after Christmas every year)

And I also keep the gifts I get (unwrapped ofcourse) under the tree and don't use anything till it comes down.
Yesturday I got my first gift, a Sockpuppet making kit. It's pretty rad! It came with a little book on how to make different sockpuppets with their pictures and little made up stories about them.

BDx13 - 12-12-2008 at 05:02 PM

i mean, does it look real?

i saw some in the home depot... the inexpensive ones looked like shit. i mean, no effort to make it look like a real tree. bunch of bright green pipe cleaners. but once you got north of $250 they were pretty convincing. still no fresh cut tree smell, though!

Furly - 12-12-2008 at 05:07 PM

mine looks pretty real, in a midget sort of way.

These are my favorite because you get a live tree with all the effect and when spring rolls around you plant it. We have had a fake one the past few years but it finally died. My wife and I agree, if you go fake, go waaaaaaaaaay fake, obnoxious even. We like the wierd colored ones. I have my eye on this Champagne colored one I think I want to get when the holiday is over.

Fuck a fake christmas tree.

I was so close to buying the bright pink tree this year, but I just couldn't bring myself to spend $40 on it.

Last year we went as tacky as we possibly could. Trying to out tacky our neighbors. We won!

JawnDiablo - 12-12-2008 at 07:03 PM

if i let her, my girlfriend would probably have a pink tree.
no way it's happenin while I'm still breathing.

upyerbum - 12-12-2008 at 07:05 PM

I'm from the land of Christmas trees, go buy a real one.

Enyo - 12-13-2008 at 12:18 AM

I guess I'm just cheap about it. Last time I bought a real tree was a few years ago and it was $65. I figure, I could get a mani- pedi for that. Merry Christmas to me.

Yes, I did just say mani-pedi. Don't act like you don't know what that it is, or that it isn't hard core. :duh:

BDx13 - 12-13-2008 at 12:28 AM

i had a pedi once.
never a mani.

Voodoobillyman - 12-13-2008 at 02:21 AM

I had a mani once, never a pedi

I hope some of you, when you go out to chop down a tree, go all Griswold on it and hike out into the middle of fucking nowhere to chop down the most rediculously huge tree that'll never fit in your house just because. Especially if it involves strapping it to the top of your station wagons.

I need to watch that movie...

Fuck Yeah!
God I wish I had a chainsaw and a station wagon right now.
