Kettlebells

Anyone use?

I bought a 20lbs one today since it was on sale at Target. Looking forward to using it and moving up to heavier ones. From what I understand it builds muscle in a way that works best for martial arts.

The exercises involved are alot like the old style Shaolin lock style weights exercises.

Kettlebells are a great workout. It is best to have two of them though. How much did you get them for? I know they can get pricey.

Never heard of them, but they sound like something I'd be interested in. Explain please, or link?

Whats the difference between that and a dumbbell?

barc0debaby - 1-4-2009 at 10:02 AM

Dumbbells are more for strictly strength training, Mr. olympia type shit, you can use heavier weight than with a kettlebell and target specific muscles better. Kettlebells on the other hand give you a wide range of motion which help with flexibility and stabilizing muscles. They help with core strength and you use multiple muscle groups. Great for functional strength and athletics.

Yeah, if you're going for usable strength kettlebells are the way to go.

barc0de, most the exercises for kettlebells I've seen are for one at a time... so I'm not too concerned about having two of 'em yet. Ideally I'd like to have s few.

I paid 40 bucks for 20lbs, and that was on sale. It's hard to find a store... even the likes of the Sports Authority... that sells any larger kettlebells than 25lbs too. I think the only place I saw any higher was Play It Again Sports. They sure as hell ain't cheap.

Cool, that ain't bad considering what I've seen them go for. Check out a dude name Mike Mahler, he's done alot of good articles on kettlebell use.

DaveMoral - 1-5-2009 at 04:43 PM

Yeah, that dude's vegan too. Even better for me.

Stay away from Mike Mahlers website right now, there seems to be a virus or something on it.

Thanks for the heads up.
