it was just a regular big box retail job, but i was kinda counting on this job to make it through all the economy woes.

their sales are drastically down, so they did a blanket cut on anyone who was hired after August 2008.

it wasn't the greastest, but as long as i showed up and did what i supposed to, the checks cashed.

i need resume help.

Enyo - 1-4-2009 at 11:24 AM

Have you ever volunteered anywhere? Put that on your resume. I have learned a lot about how to make yourself sound good, because at my job we essentially have to rewrite our resumes and be judged again once a year.

What kind of job are you looking for?

Murk - 1-5-2009 at 04:52 PM

DAMN!

my gf just came home from being laid off.

we're in deep shit.

i don't want to do sales, but other than that i just need something.

newbreedbrian - 1-5-2009 at 04:54 PM

that's tough man. i'm really sorry to hear it. things usually have a way of working themselves out, best of luck.

BDx13 - 1-5-2009 at 05:00 PM

ug, that sucks.
i hope you guys have some cash saved up or strong leads for new jobs.
this shit makes me so nervous.

my primary job is a great one, but it's contract, six months at a time.
every time we renew, i feel good for a month.
then i worry for the next five.
renewal in beginning of march and i've been a wreck since before thanksgiving.
sorry about the rant.
good luck to you both.

Sucks man, I'm unemployed as of this friday. Going to try to get a union gig pipefitting out in burbank. I've already got a couple years experience in the field so I'm hoping that will help me out. Union might be something to check out Murk, even if your not skilled in a particular area they often offer apprenticeship programs and have great educational programs if you actually get accepted. Its a long shot, but if you can get on one the pay is good.

we have a little.

no strong leads for me, but she has a pretty good resume with a lot of experience. she should qualify for unemployment and hopefully be able to find another job with similar pay.

the thing that scares me is that ALL businesses are cutting back and everybody affected by it is looking for jobs also. even if i see something on Craigslist, there's a couple hundred other people seeing it every 15 minutes too.

BDx13 - 1-5-2009 at 07:12 PM

in my experience, finding a job is all about who you know.

seriously, tell everyone you know that you're looking and ask them if they know of anything.

not to sound like a dick, but i probably have one of the fancier resumes on the board... and in all honesty, i couldn't agree with BD more. ask you're friends. jobs are about connections first, qualifications second. get the connection now, and worry about your qualifications after you hear back.

you're absolutely right, but unfortunately, in my case, that list is very short.
