Philadelphia Depression

Todd - 4-26-2005 at 11:01 AM

Mens Health magazine voted Philly the most depressed city in America. Now you know why Starkweather sounds the way we do and why MrBadVibes has such a horrible attitude. We even beat out Detroit! Nice work.

Holy shit this is amazing.

Is Your Town Down?
Which towns stand in the face of depression
By: Sara Vigneri

Maybe it was all those years of futility for the Phillies. Or the shadows cast by New York City to the north and Washington, D.C., to the south. Whatever the reasons, Philadelphia has earned the melancholy distinction of being America's most depressed city, followed closely by Detroit and St. Petersburg, Florida. Men's Health compiled this list based on antidepressant sales, courtesy of NDC Health; suicide rates, from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC); and the number of days inhabitants reported being depressed, based on the CDC's Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, accessed through bestplaces.net.

Where can you find happiness? Texas, that's where. Three of its cities placed in the top four: number one, Laredo; number two, El Paso; and number four, Corpus Christi.

thedog - 4-26-2005 at 01:35 PM

it's probably all T.O.'s fault that philly is depressed.
everyone is sad cause he dont have enough $ to feed his family.

gavin - 4-26-2005 at 03:20 PM

JawnDiablo - 4-26-2005 at 07:03 PM

The next time one of these pampered pieces of shit cries about money I got 2 words for them: Pat Tillman.

JawnDiablo - 4-26-2005 at 08:40 PM

yeah it's a real bitch bringing up a family on only $4 million a year...my heart goes out to TO...right
I saw mcnabbs mom in the supermarket and asked her " why does Donovan always eat his soup out of the can?" ..she says " cause whenever he gets near a bowl he chokes"....

yeah philly is swell...not many things to do, very fewplaces to see a show anymore that arent huge, the best heroin in the USA, high cost of living, low wages of employment, and the city that loves you back. ....have a pretzel on me

JawnDiablo - 4-26-2005 at 08:42 PM

and parking near the khyber is fuckin rediculous

viva hate - 4-26-2005 at 09:33 PM

that nuts. i grew up around st. petersburg, fl. ...in largo and clearwater actually, and st.pete was heroin capital. we were young too. now all my old buddies from there are dead and in prison. florida is a big fucking toilet. i hate that place.

GabeTexasGAMC - 4-26-2005 at 11:14 PM

fuck yeah im happy.
the beers flow like water, the girls stay the same age, no matter how old i get, and i have some good friends.
Indeed!

clevohardcore - 4-27-2005 at 10:47 AM

This has got to be false. CLEVELAND has to be the most depressed. Mabe the reason it's not is becasue everyone here is moving to Philly.

clevohardcore - 4-27-2005 at 10:54 AM

I can't blame them because the jobs are leaving too.

vinnie518 - 4-27-2005 at 02:45 PM

My best friend moved to Philly, and that made me depressed... fuck Philly.

JawnDiablo - 4-27-2005 at 06:18 PM

there's jobs in philly? well i'll be damned.....
last I checked we were the fattest city in america...now we are fat and depressed.
but seriously the cast of the real world looks more than happy in philly ...yeah really now....
fuhgedaboutit!

godabandonedme - 4-28-2005 at 01:29 AM

Work as a cop in Philly, then you'll know why I want to use my piece on myself everytime I get home from work everynight.

Todd - 4-28-2005 at 11:33 AM

I need to look at a fucking map, Boycott. I'm such a fucking retard I barely know where Philadelphia is. I have a buddy in Croatia so I'm adding you to my list of friends that are from places that I can't find on the map.

That Philly story that Mr. Moron linked is so fucking depressing. I like watching a good hockey fight just like any guy, but goddam, 15 years old, what a horrible way to die. Living in Philly for 13 years did damage to me that I'm still trying to undo.

Todd - 4-28-2005 at 11:36 AM

Hey Boycott, you and my Croatian buddy are neighbors! Any hostility between the 2 countries?

JawnDiablo - 4-28-2005 at 08:58 PM

philly news is all bad news..yesterday a 7 year old kid got shot by some ass hole who was shooting at his step dad from across the street. then the step dad takes off....earlier that day a kid was found hanging in the coat closet in his classroom ...i hate the fuckin news anymore... especially living so close to the shit, and having an 8 year old son knowing this is the woonderful world he is growing up in....i only listen for the traffic report, and that is also bad...

JawnDiablo - 4-29-2005 at 06:01 AM

another shitty thing aboyt filfadelfia is tha fact there are hardly any good shows...unless in the fuckin electric factory...which blows
i remember, nicks, barbary, revival, dobbs, 40st underground, fake haus, and so on...i eben tried doing them in my buddies parents bar as a kid...we did get darkside, 25 ta life, hard response, next step up, but half of em either didnt show or got lost...then had the easy with madball, breakdown and a slew of others, but you know how it goes, anything good in this town eventually turns to mush.....the troc isnt too bad, but it seemed allot cooler when i was a kid going there like 15 years ago...

Todd - 4-29-2005 at 01:35 PM

juandiablo, i love that you listen to your fucking fish tank! My hatred of Philly is so deep. I haven'tlived there since '99 and I still walk around thinking that people are out to get me. Even when I was living in a posh part of NYC I couldn't relax. Philly blows. I'm building a big huge bulldozer in my garage and I'm gonna mow it down river to river. I'll let you, Rennie, MrBad, and a few other people know when I'm coming and I'll sell you some nice real estate for cheap when I'm done. Keep listening to the fishes...

JawnDiablo - 4-29-2005 at 05:35 PM

i can think of 20square city blocks of the top of my head that are ripe for demolition...yeah seriously, the looking over your shoulder thing takes a long time to get rid of...my brother lives in austin texas now and loves it, but it took a long time to shake the philly feeling
glad to see we are #1 in something considering our sports teams never will be

you movin here duane?
south philly is pretty safe right now

BDx13 - 5-2-2005 at 01:29 PM

tryin' to. gotta line up some more work in the area first. i've been looking at houses, mostly in roxborough/manayunk, but the whole city is expensive. thanks real world.

JawnDiablo - 5-2-2005 at 04:56 PM

the manayunk are is overpriced, overrated and overcrowded. South Philly is pretty sane, and for the most part may be the one section that has stayed the same over the years. plus you can double park...haha..
why are you considering moving to philly anyway?
we have some cool food that we call our own....stay away from the tourist traps like genos and pats though
but one thing you need to know is, that when spring comes around and the warmer weather is here, theres nothing else to do but shoot at each other and try to break last years homicide record..the way we are going , i really think we can break an all time record.
the royal on passyunk has some good eats,

BDx13 - 5-2-2005 at 05:03 PM

i grew up around philly, so i'm familiar with the double (and triple) parking technique. i have a lot of friends and my inlaws in west chester, so i'm open to any areas on that (south, west) side of the city. this one broker keeps trying to show me shit way up near bucks county; f that.

JawnDiablo - 5-2-2005 at 05:20 PM

bucks is a different world from philly.
delaware county is pretty crummy anymore, either it is going down the tubes (turning ghetto) or has become too expensive.....

Todd - 5-2-2005 at 06:03 PM

Duane, don't do it. NYC is the greatest place on the face of the earth.
