Anyone Been To Niagra Falls For Vacation?

CR83 - 1-5-2009 at 04:11 PM

If so, Canada or US side? I want to take Mrs. R83 there for her birthday in August.

Thanks!

Yes. Lots to see and do, but it's bloody expensive, at least on the Canadian side. Everything from hotels to food will cost you more than elsewhere.

CR83 - 1-5-2009 at 04:35 PM

Thanks Man, I totally appreciate it.

An example, my girlfriend (at the time) and I went to a Denny's for breakfast because we wanted to eat cheap. It cost us $55. We didn't bother to look at the prices because it was fucking Denny's. Had we gone to a Denny's around here the bill would have been about $20-25.

yup, definitely worth a visit. Mike's not kidding though, it's crazy expensive there.

BDx13 - 1-5-2009 at 05:04 PM

years ago we went there for a day trip while visiting friends in toronto.
if fun - definitely kitschy - but expensive.

gotta tell ya though, unless you're a gambler, i can't see spending more than a day there.
it's been ten years, so there may me more to it now, but back then...
see the falls, take a tour, do the picture in the barrel, grab a meal, roll the dice, hit the road.

Do the walk behind the Falls, that shit is cool.
Cable car ride over the Whirlpool is also kinda cool, or for more cash you can take a jet boat down the river.
Lots of haunted houses on Clifton Hill and surrounding area and the criminal wax museum, butterfly conservatory and a big clock made of flowers.
Queenston Heights also out of the way, just a memorial park with a tall statue you can walk up.
Lundy's Lane might be cheaper than directly surrounding the falls & Clifton Hill. Tons of factory direct warehouses around there, and the Super Putt is wicked.
Could also drive down the Welland Canal to any lock and watch ships go up and down :D

Niagara on the Lake is a good tourist spot, little shops and scenic shit, just up the road from Niagara Falls. Was where they filmed the movie Trapped in Paradise with Nick Cage & some other dudes.

There's also Blue Ghost Tunnel not too far from the falls, 10 minute drive maybe. Go see some haunted shit at dusk there or at the screaming tunnel. http://hamiltonparanormal.com/tunnel.html thats BGT, check out the site for other mysterious stuff in the area.

Just hop on the highway and go to St Catharines or something if you wanna eat. Perkins is right on the highway at Holiday Inn and 24 hours, good pancakes. Pen Center for shopping or Niagara Square in the Falls plus those factory outlets on Lundy's Lane.

Lots of bed & breakfasts along the river and in NOTL, hotels directly overlooking the falls will be expensive, more up on Lundy's Lane but not as nice and cheaper.

The Sundowner is one of the best strip bars I've ever been to. Anytime we're near the falls my buddies and I pop in there.

clevohardcore - 1-6-2009 at 12:13 AM

Canada side and I heard its awesome. If you go winter you get cheap rates if you go summer its a great time. Stay on the Canadian side.

jonnynewbreed - 1-6-2009 at 07:26 AM

Ahhh the sundowner.

Six66Mike - 1-6-2009 at 07:55 AM

Dip down to NOTL for Private Eyes, good strippers there too and you can do the toonie slide :D Sundowner is class, Mints as well.

Canadian sign definitely better views, US side your facing the wrong way to see the US falls lol. Skylon tower is good, if they still have the big arcade in the basement that's wicked too. Never been to the IMAX there though.

Well, save the research. We talked last night and have decided to hit Florida again this year. One last trip as a family of three so we are going to take our soon to be 5-year-old. We plan on having another kid next year so it will be one more time where our daughter is the only kid and we can "relax" on the beach.

You all rule by the way.

Discipline - 1-6-2009 at 01:35 PM

I'm looking at hitting Florida next month to get away for a week. Go down and visit my dad.
