Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

2009's starting off bad

JawnDiablo - 1-5-2009 at 10:44 PM

In the last year my brother's health has just fallen apart due to tumors he had around his lower spine. For reasons unknown to doctors / oncologists they kept coming back. In 99% of these cases the tumors are benign. He fell within the other 1%. There wasn't even a doctor in the US that wanted to touch it. They found one in Sweeden, to come here and perform a 20 hour surgery. While recovering, more tumors were found/ The cancer ended up spreading. They tried Chemo. It was too late. I got the call today from his wife to tell me that it wasn't working. He is too far gone to do anything else, and keeping him going is just way too cruel. They are putting him in a hospice so he can pass as painlessly as possible. I had to deliver this news to my parents today. He is 31, has 2 kids under the age of 2 and had everything going for him. Shit really isn't fair. I guess I'm just waiting at this point.

Sorry to hear this. Way too fucking young for this kind of shit to happen. Is this the brother in Texas?

Furly - 1-5-2009 at 11:55 PM

So young, really just starting his life. That's too bad.

jonnynewbreed - 1-6-2009 at 07:24 AM

I'm so sorry to hear about this. I lost my mom to cancer when I was 17 and my brothers are my best friends. My thoughts are with you, your brother and your family. I'm so sorry.

Discipline - 1-6-2009 at 10:17 AM

Sorry man, that's horrible. It really seems like everybody is starting off 2009 in a shitty way.

JawnDiablo - 1-6-2009 at 11:44 AM

Thanks for your well wishes guys.
I really have nowhere to turn to vent anymore, and even though I really don't know much about any of yous besides 1 or 2, I consider you all good friends. You're all good people.
I didn't bother going into my hellhole job today cause I just don't want to deal with the bullshit and people there.
I have to tell my son tonight, which is going to be rough. He's 11 and really dug his uncle.

Dave - 1-6-2009 at 01:01 PM

take care.

CR83 - 1-6-2009 at 01:07 PM

Juan, I'm so sorry to hear the Man. Don't forget we love you here and will help in any way.

DaveMoral - 1-6-2009 at 03:27 PM

That sucks juan. Sorry to hear. My condolences to you and your's.

BTW, did you mean that 99% of these cases are benign and that your brother fell into the 1% that are malignant? That really sucks.

Hope he finds peace in whatever he believes comes next.

Siczine.com - 1-6-2009 at 04:49 PM

Real sorry to hear this Juan.

I can't even imagine what you and your family are going through, especially your mom. No mother ever wants to see her son/daughter go before they do.

moron - 1-6-2009 at 06:17 PM

Fuck. Sorry dude. Not sure what else to say.

Spoiler - 1-6-2009 at 06:53 PM

so sorry to hear this man, bless you and your family.

tireironsaint - 1-6-2009 at 07:51 PM

Sorry to hear this, juan. I'm hoping for the best for you and your family and as is obvious from everyone's comments so far, we're all here for you.

An older friend of mine passed a couple months ago from something very similar. He worked with me and was having back pain, finally quit because the pain was too bad. He went to the hospital two days later to have it checked out and had tumors wrapped around his spine. A few days later they told him that the cancer was in every part of his body and it took him about three weeks to go from that point.

joey - 1-6-2009 at 09:16 PM

Sorry to hear about this, juan. My good friend passed away from cancer in '06.

JawnDiablo - 1-8-2009 at 08:53 AM

Hey guys,
Thank you for your kind words and support in the last few days. It really means alot to me.
My brother passed away last night. The poor guy suffered alot in this past year, and now he can finally be without pain anymore. My family is pretty much just my parents and my son at this point, and my true friends are scattered and few anymore, so for those of you that emailed me and stuff ,I am truly touched and I thank you.

BDx13 - 1-8-2009 at 09:14 AM

this is just terrible.
it's not even like i can say, "well, at least he lived a long, full life".
31 with a young family...
this man and his family were straight up robbed.
i'm so sorry.
juan, you and your family will continue to be in the thoughts of the bd family.

joey - 1-8-2009 at 10:28 AM

My condolences

CR83 - 1-8-2009 at 10:59 AM

Oh man. I'm so sorry to hear this. We will for sure keep you and yours in our prayers.

defstarsteve - 1-8-2009 at 11:42 AM

Sorry for your loss, man. As you said, at least his pain is over now.

As for you, you're a well established part of the Thorp family and we're all thinking of you. Take care, brother.
