Indeed. That was one of the worst cases of blatant commercialism ever. In search of chasing dollars via pandering to the lowest common denominator they butchered an amazing story. I'm still pissed about that movie.

Not at all. I've never seen the Charleton Heston version, Omega Man, but Vincent Price's Last Man On Earth is a hell of a lot closer to the actual story line, even if it is a bit cheesy and dull. This is honestly, one of the most hacked up butcher jobs I've ever known Hollywood to do and as anyone knows, they've done a LOT of those.

Yes, The Vincent Price film was way closer to the original story.
I loved the book.
The movie had some cool special effects and all, but should in no way carry the same title.

The Last Man on Earth was scary. Never saw the Will Smith movie.

Of all the forms of that story in all media, I'll take White Zombie's song "I Am Legend" above all.

I haven't seen Last Man on Earth. I was told by someone at the studio that version was "loosely" based on the book and know that the writer actually demanded his name be removed from the film credits as having anything to do with it.
I haven't seen this version, either though. Really no interest.

The Will Smith movie was just a dumb action flick. If you can separate the two then it isn't so bad. But the book was a sad story about loneliness and survival. The fact that it was set in the suburbs really added to that. The Will Smith movie HAD to set it in NYC so they could make it an epic blockbuster.

Its crazy seeing old pictures of that area and seeing it now. I was at a del taco on crenshaw and this old lady came up and asked me if I was lost.
