I support the remakes. Most of the ones that have come out so far were good movies. They are not as good as the originals., but they are still good. Plus it drums up interest in the originals which sometimes creates some cool new stuff.

SS76 - 1-13-2009 at 11:10 AM

Fuck! Gonna be a few good years of movies coming up. I usually always like the remakes better than the originals. Surprised the Exorcist wasn't on there; the only horror movie they're not redoing. But then again, it is the ONLY scary movie in existence. Tony Stark summed up my opinion in Iron Man..."I've been called alot of things, and nostalgic isn't one of them"

People always say that about the Exorcist that it was such a scary movie. I never found it to be, I even laughed my ass off in parts of it. I could never figure out what was so scary about it. There was no realism to it, I mean it was a as real as Star Wars to me.

MM.

MikeFromInhuman - 1-13-2009 at 11:24 AM

Why does Hollywood keep churning these remakes out?
BECAUSE MILLIONS OF AMERICANS KEEP SEEING THEM! That's why.

Let's face it, Hollywood is out of ideas on how to scare people.

Want originality in Horror? Look to Europe - France, Spain and Sweden in particluar to get an original ( or semi original) horror movie for the next 5 yrs.

On a happy note - 2 remakes that are thankfully NOT happening are "The Exorcist" and "Rosemarys Baby".

SS76 - 1-13-2009 at 11:27 AM

Yeah, I know what you mean. But seeing her ram that crucifix in her twat saying "fuck me jesus!" when you're like 11 stays with you for awhile. When you're young enough to believe in santa you believe in satan too. Then you grow up and realize everything's a lie. Scary to a child, funny to an adult.

Discipline - 1-13-2009 at 12:06 PM

I'm still pissed they're remaking Escape From New York. Leave the classics alone damnit.

BDx13 - 1-13-2009 at 12:26 PM

is "I Saw What You Did" (2012), a remake of i know what you did last summer?
you can't remake a movie that's been out for less than a decade!

Furly - 1-13-2009 at 12:40 PM

That list has to be bullshit.
There is no way the movie industry has gotten this lame.....is there?.......really.......

Ugg..

Enyo - 1-13-2009 at 02:08 PM

Furly- I totally thought that too, but yeah.. I think it can be that lame.

As to the Exorcist.... http://www.divine-interventions.com/jackhammer.html Let Jesus fuck you.

MikeFromInhuman - 1-13-2009 at 03:14 PM

No, the list is legit.

"I Saw What You Did" (2012), is not a remake of " I Know What You Did Last Summer" but a 1965 movie.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Saw_What_You_Did

I was under the impression that it was more of a prequel?

Furly- Most of these lists are pretty speculative. Shit like this hits blogs all the time. Most of these won't even make it into preproduction.

i swear they did a porn remake called "the sexorcist" or something cheesy like that recently. i think someone here posted the link (a few months back), since i don't know where else i would've seen it.

oh, and i'm really not trying to be that creepy guy in multiple threads.

With Carpenter actively involved it might not that bad of a movie.

These are the only ones I've really heard of. Remaking the classics (Freddy, Jason, Myers, Pinhead) is just fucking retarded. Remaking series is like the ultimate in "we're too fucking dumb to come up with something new". Remakes of 1 off movies, sure, but again why popular classics? Remake the shit nobody watched the first time, try to revive a failed movie by doing it better, but timeless classics should be left alone, horror & otherwise.

tireironsaint - 1-13-2009 at 09:45 PM

I see at least a couple of movies that are already remakes on there too. I've finally accepted that some remakes are actually much better than their originals, but I still think it's bullshit that Hollywood can't come up with better original movies than remakes.

I agree, I read awesome books all the time, that would make decent movies. Why don't they look there??

I think the same thing, unfortunately they seem to fuck those up worse than remaking movies that were fine the first time around.

They can, and there's actually tons of shit out there. However, right now, it's a lot easier and more successful to use familiar characters and story lines, and it's going to continue as long as the American public keeps going to see them, which they will.

And, I'm not a HUGE horror fan, but there seems to be a pretty steady stream of original ideas/movies out there I see previews for.

Also, that article is about 2 years old. I'm pretty sure the guy from 300 had dropped out and someone else had already been casted, but I could have that backwards.

defstarsteve - 1-13-2009 at 10:11 PM

remaking a film is a hell of a lot easier then writing something original
hire a 50 dollar hack and you have a script rewrite in a few hours,
hire no name talent and spend the rest of the budget in bad "tool" music video special effects and marketing it to idiots

there is writing talent left in the world, but it's used in comics, video games, and online where people have more control over their own projects and they can afford to diy it if they need to...

hell for less than 10,000 you can buy a good computer, editing software and a used camera and produce your own films at better quality than there was in the 80's

what was considered hollywood is dying fast and hard like the music industry
too many fat cats taking large sums to do nothing, and then putting out subpar products...

burn hollywood burn

MarkV - 1-13-2009 at 10:22 PM

Actually, Hollywood isn't suffering anywhere NEARLY as badly as the music industry, and have actually learned some pretty valuable lessons from that industries mistakes.

And also, to be honest, most of these remakes are essentially new stories. Halloween took a couple of characters and the same city and made a good amount of changes (aside from scenes Zombie deliberately left in as an homage). Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Day, totally different stories. Same with Day the Earth Stood Still.

Six66Mike - 1-13-2009 at 11:33 PM

Fuck remakes.

Jackie Chan is being courted to star as the next Mr Miyagi in a proposed Karate Kid remake.

The Evil Dead better turn out to be something really zany. I mean, instead of a a whole new cast with a whole new Ash they, Raimi should cast Campbell as Ash again and pretty much do what he did with Evil Dead 2 and re-do the story with a few tweeks but make Ash all just an old perv that's hanging out with teens or something.

And how can it be the Evil Dead if it's made with modern sfx? No thanks.

I'm with you! Campbell is the ONLY Ash.

Well, yeah, obviously I was exaggerating a bit with saying there was NOTHING new, but in the context of this conversation I think it's a point worth making. There really seem to be more and more remakes all the time and even though some are admittedly worthwhile if not entirely better than the originals, there really OUGHT to be more effort put in to creating new things that have merit on their own.

Yes, of course there are some movies coming out that are good cinematic versions of books, No Country For Old Men was one of those in my eyes (although the book absolutely blows it away it's still a damn fine movie in it's own right). There are also good movies coming out that aren't remakes and aren't taken from best selling novels or whatever. I'll admit all that without a fight, but I think there's a huge slacker tendency gaining momentum in Hollywood these days that is going beyond past eras. I'm not saying that Hollywood hasn't got a long and proven track record of trying to cash in on whatever looks like the latest lactating cash cow, just that it seems to be even more blatant and obnoxious these days.

MarkV - 1-14-2009 at 08:10 AM

TIS- I agree with a good chunk of that. But:
Hwood is always going to look to books. Always has, always will.
Like I said, I think it reflects MORE on the viewing public and less on the studios, and trust me, I'm not defending them. They "give the people what they want." And yes, there's a GIANT marketing machine behind it, but these studios do millions in research, so I'm guessing, they feel the remake thing is worth their time.
Also, like I said, if people are buying, then they're selling. If there's some flops, this trend will go away. Warner shelved/axed about 6 projects when Superman Returns flopped. I think they realize the new Batman thing is being viewed as more than "comic book movies" and couldn't hang. If Watchmen flops, expect to see even less comic films. But, based on Dark Knight and Iron Man, studios are seeing comics as viable (except for WB who own DC). Zombie's Halloween set all sorts of records (and unfortunately people liked his first one and a remake like Dawn of the Dead was fairly well acclaimed, as was Texas Chainsaw remake) so they're going to keep coming up until we see otherwise. It's like the music biz: until people stop buying Fall Out Boy, we're going to get more Fall Out Boys.

As for Evil Dead.... I had read many moons ago that Raimi and Campbell would be producers for the remake BUT essentially, if it did well, we'd see a new Evil Dead sequel with Campbell following Army of Darkness. (2 bonus points if someone can tell me the original name of that film)
