I LOVE Horror Punk, but none of those do it all that well for me. The Crimson Ghosts are pretty good, but everything I've heard from them is just
Surfed up instro versions of Misfits songs. Calabrese are ok, I guess, but there's something about their sound that just makes me believe that each
and every member of the band would happily take Danzig's cock down their throat just to be able to say they did.
I would say that my favorite Horror Punk band outside of the whole Misfits/Samhain family is The Staggers outta Dallas. I don't think they're really
active right now, but the main force behind them has another band called Dog Company which is kinda similar in style, but without the Horror stuff and
the kind of Western sound that the Staggers have. Anyway, there are two amazing full lengths available from them on Haunted Town records that I HIGHLY
recommend. The singer for both of these bands can really fucking sing and has an amazing voice, perfectly suited to Horror and not at all another
Danzig rip off. There were some other releases from these guys too, some under the name Riot Squad, before they realized that there were already
dozens of other bands using that name. If you listen to the Staggers and become a huge fan of their sound, I'd recommend searching out the Riot Squad
stuff too, but it's a bit harder to track down and not quite as perfected as they became after the name change.
Another one I love would be the Tall Boys. The OTHER founding member of The Meteors went on to form this group with much less of a Psychobilly sound,
but still a strong Horror and Western type root to it. Most people know them from their track on the soundtrack to Return Of The Living Dead, but
there's a great CD out there called Fun Time which has pretty much everything they recorded and is well worth the import pricing I paid a few years
back when I finally tracked it down.
There were a few great bands on that soundtrack, another one would be The Jet Black Berries and their former incarnation as a band called New Math.
Very Goth Rock sounding, but not the light and fluffy bullshit or the fruity dance shit that most people think of in that genre.
