My Dog on his Treadmill

This is Jimmy. He is a 70 pound boxer/pit mix. It has been too cold to walk him so we put his ass on a treadmill. This is his 4th time on it. He went 15 minutes and for .75 miles.

I swear his is not choking ;-)

CR83- my dog is a pit that walks on the treadmill about 45 minutes a day. Without it he would totallly eat my furniture. It took him a few weeks to get really adjusted to it, but now he loves it. If he hears it turn on he comes running to jump on with me.

I would also highly reccommend getting him a backpack. The added weight gives him a harder workout in less time.

Thanks Voodoo. That is our basement. We had a friend finish it for us a few years ago. We don't spend enough time down there. Thank you for the compliment.

That would be awesome. I am totally impressed by that. If we don't exercise Jimmy, he goes nuts. As long as it is over 27 degrees and under 85, I run him 5 to 15 miles a week. Having this treadmill is something I'm totally stoked about. I'm glad I'm not the only one trying to get their dog going on a treadmill ;-)

UNITY!!

I have never tried that, but I know a number of people that use treadmills with their dogs and tell me they are great. It is a great alternative for the dog when it is simply to cold out to walk them.

Nice looking dog by the way.

Thanks Dude!

1/2 mile in 11 minutes. I could totally outrun your boy. HAHAHAHA. That is a great idea and your dog is really focused.

My God... WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO THAT POOR DOG?????

I'm talking about the doggy boots. The treadmill is fine. But what the fuck is up with the dog boots? That's cruel.

Enyo - 1-21-2009 at 03:02 PM

haha clevo- the thing to remember is that using a treadmill is a HUGE challenge for them because their instincts tell them to flee when the ground starts moving under their feet. Some dogs take to it faster than others. Our chow mix will do a few minutes at a time, but she hates every second of it.

It was a necessity for us because we live on a very busy street with no sidewalks. I'm afraid to try to walk them there, and a once a week visit to the park just isn't enough.

It sure appears that way and now he doesn't flinch at them. That was his first go round. I still laugh at it.

They are made from the same material as a swim cap. They go over his paws for when our backyard is soupy from rain.
