Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

Soulseek question

So I got a slsk account so my brother down in Florida could download some albums off of me. I followed the directions they gave to set it up, but my upload speed is really low. It takes hours to download a single album. Any advice as to how to speed it up?

I think it's all dependant on your connection speed. Do you have dial up or digital?

High speed digital.

seems like uploading and downloading speeds are totally different. I've never uploaded anything except for the summer thorp mix cd and I remember that shit took over an hour to upload.

I have my music folder set up for sharing. I tried downloading something and got it really fast, but when my brother tried to download some stuff from me it took like 3-4 hours for a single album.

you might want to try uploading it to a site like mediafire, rapidshare, or yousend it as a .zip or .rar file. saves you the trouble of being online at the same time, and seems to download much faster than soulseek, since i can relate to your problem.

Make sure your brother has his max D/L bandwith set to 0, this allows for unrestricted bandwith from the program. That might help some, if not there might be something with your computer not allowing soulseek to access that many ports, I don't know how to mess with any of that stuff, but it can slow you up. Also your ISP might actually be limiting how much you can upload, some ISPs actually limit programs like soulseek for set hours during the day or just limit it all together.

It depends on the other person's connection speed too. Plus whether or not your ports are forwarded to your firewall and/or router (hard to explain). I'd try what random recommended.

Yeah make sure firewalls on either end aren't a problem and the ISP isn't throttling, try a different port and make sure your router has the ports open.

Your brothers connection speed is more than likely the problem I would think. I dunno

Discipline - 1-24-2009 at 01:57 PM

Fuck it. I'll just use media fire.

I haven't even used Soulseek in a while because of the superiority of rapidshare, mediafire and megaupload.
