Most absinthe is a waste of money. In addition to being really expensive, most countries limit the content of the active ingredient (thujone) at 10mg per liter. With the alcohol content at about 140 proof, you will be unconscious from the alcohol long before you get to a point where you can feel the effects of the thujone. I wouldn't waste my money on any absinthe that contained less than 100mg per liter.

You can order absinthe from overseas (at originalabsinthe.com for example), but it's a gamble. You won't get arrested for it, but that doesn't mean that it won't be seized by customs.

Also, its the worst-tasting beverage ever.

I guess the "real stuff" is easier to get here in the states now. I had some friends in a band who used to bring the shit back from Europe with them. I've never had it, but here it's pretty trippy.
