The Germs

Any fans? I go back and forth on this band, sometimes I listen to them and like their stuff, and other times I'll hate it. I watched the Germs movie "What We Do is Secret" last night which is what made think about their legacy. Movie was standard Hollywood shit, but Shane West did a decent job playing Darby Crash.

Never really dug em.I have a flipside magazine album recording
of darby cutting himself open with a cocktail glass.Which
is kinda rad!;)

I think that its a case of being punk as fuck as opposed to making good punk music

newbreedbrian - 3-13-2009 at 11:32 PM

there were much better bands in that scene

love them

A lot of their songs are fucking brilliant, but I'd rather hear other bands cover them for the most part. Anybody heard The Freeze doing Lexicon Devil? Amazingly good.

^^^^^^ This sums it up.

I voted decent.... I LOVE "Manimal" and "Lexicon Devil" but the rest of the stuff is okay.

I havent seen the movie, but would check it out. Darby in 'The Decline' is some funny stuff.

I agree. I've heard covers that sound a lot better than the originals.

Honestly, I fucking HATED the Germs until I heard some covers of their songs. There's so much of Darby's snot and intentionally shitty playing piled on top of what are actually great songs that it took somebody playing them more or less "clean" for me to even tell. I can't stand that "too punk to speak, sing, or play good" attitude and unfortunately, a band that could write such amazing songs with some truly brilliant lyrics decided to make that attitude their main legacy.

they were okay, there were way better bands from that area/time frame tho
