Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

WHat band do you seem to keep trying to like, but it just isn't happening

clevohardcore - 4-23-2009 at 01:23 PM

BLACK TRAIN JACK. LIFE OF AGONY. This has been an issue for a long time. I have tried on several occasions to jam then out, but like a Bill Cosby dancing, it just isn't happening.

MyOwnWay - 4-23-2009 at 02:22 PM

I love both bands (except wasnt a fan of LOA's last release)... And Bill Cosby.

Enyo - 4-23-2009 at 02:35 PM

I'm a fan of Cosby too. :P

Marduk. I have been trying for years and I tried again last night. Still won't happen. Perhaps they suck and I should just give it up.

The Clash
Bob Marley

sippers - 4-23-2009 at 04:18 PM

I'm probably gonna catch shit for these black flag and circle jerks..

defstarsteve - 4-23-2009 at 04:25 PM

CIRCLE JERKS>BLACK FLAG

BANDS I CAN NOT GET INTO NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I HAVE TRIED
MISFITS
BAD RELIGION

Six66Mike - 4-23-2009 at 04:41 PM

Earth Crisis is one I keep trying but it never works. A lot of bands I just don't try.

Misfits, Slapshot, Dropkick Murphy's, Bane, and yes...even Agnostic Front.

Mark Lind - 4-23-2009 at 05:01 PM

If you have to try to like a band then you're doing it all wrong in my opinion.

One band that I can't figure out if I like or hate is Radiohead.

Reggae
Most ska (I like a few of the second and third generation bands, but I can't get into the original ska music)

DAK - 4-23-2009 at 06:14 PM

Type O Negative

Biohazard?! Really? I thought they'd be up your alley. Color me surprised my friend.

Clutch falls into this category for me. Along with A lot of Slapshot and Oh Sheet Terror. Conceptually I like Slapshot and Sheer Terror but nothing has grabbed me. I just got Slapshot's greatest hits which has some strong tracks but their other albums just don't grab me.

random - 4-23-2009 at 08:54 PM

I used to try to get into a bunch of old oi bands, but 95% of them suck. I can usually appreciate some of them for the time and the place... but Iron Cross and Last Resort are good examples of bands that were just plain awful.

^^^^^^^^^^ I agree. No matter how much I try most OI music doesn't do it for me either.

Dave - 4-23-2009 at 10:03 PM

you gotta weed thru Oi!, to the gems.

The Business
Cock Sparrer

are still wicked

Clutch?! really? Their music has always been something I could imagine even my parents liking. They have a sound that I feel can do no wrong. Slapshot and Sheer terror have always been give or take for me. I'm sure a live show could change my opinion though. (although Sheer Terror might never happen again)

JawnDiablo - 4-23-2009 at 10:56 PM

for years i tried to like Youth Of Today
but in the end i always thout they sucked.
i just didnt like Ray's really nasal voice or the stupid positive youth crew crap.

as for LOA, my dear departed friend Shane turned me onto them back in 92 or 93. he lived in Queens and was in a band with a friend who was dating one LOA dudes sister or some crap. anyway he had the demos and they were in my opinion fucking great. that best of cd they put out on roadrunner years ago doesnt even capture it. after that, River Runs Red was pretty solid, but for me, i just thought the rest sucked shit

I've always had some cool friends, some older cats in their 50s and such who tried to puch some stuff on me, oyu know to turn me on to something new. Some of the stuff I just couldn't get at the time. I was maybe 19-21 at the time, but years later, it clicked, and I was like , fuck, this si some good stuff.
such stuff was in the form of Nick Cave and the bad seeds, Morrissey, tons of blues artists, zydeco stuff, and some odd R&B.

I never really like Bob Marley as much as people make him out to be special.
I hated the Beatles as a kid, but now I think they are great.
I hated Guns & Roses, but dig alot of their stuff now....but not this last piece of shit
Rancid is great.
Tim Armstrongs solo disc is stellar
I hated Led Zep and AC/DC as a kid and now dig them very much
but that is probably from hating all the burnouts in tye dye shirts in the town in which i grew up.

9 chesterfields on a worknight...good god

JawnDiablo - 4-23-2009 at 10:57 PM

Clutch fuckin rules

JawnDiablo - 4-23-2009 at 10:58 PM

Just listened to River Runs Red the other day and still sounds as good as it did first time I heard it. No comparing it to anything. Check out Spoiler NYC if you haven't heard them. Suicide Hotel is an infectious song.

JawnDiablo - 4-23-2009 at 11:07 PM

i just didnt like anything after river.....
i went to see them in philly a few years back cuz a friend had an extra ticket and low an behold Mark Neuman was there in the audience walkin by......
nice dude, but seemed almost weirded out that people knw who he was...

SS76 - 4-23-2009 at 11:11 PM

Whitfield Crane sounded awesome on vocals the year I saw them at Ozzfest. 98 maybe?

morgan - 4-23-2009 at 11:39 PM

For whatever reason I have never been able to get into Slapshot.

barc0debaby - 4-24-2009 at 12:07 AM

Pretty much all the big rock and roll bands from the 60's. Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin etc. I love Sabbath though.

DaveMoral - 4-24-2009 at 01:08 AM

I like Sheer Terror but I'm not as super into them as some of you folks here.

Lemme see here... I tried to give some emo shit a chance back in the day because I figured if I spun that shit on occasion girls would think I was an intense vegan warrior who had a soft side. Never quite worked. All that shit was just too gay.

I disagree with MM on Marduk, I loved Marduk. I hate most black metal though. Don't listen to it at all anymore.

Coalesce
Sub-Zero

There's alot of stuff that I would've thought I'd like but it just turned out to do nothing for me. Some stuff is like that. I agree that Oi! is really really hit or miss.

clevohardcore - 4-24-2009 at 01:26 AM

I will add CLUTCH and CROWBALL to that list. Mayn people go off about CLUTCH but I can't dig it.

REV.PAULIE - 4-24-2009 at 06:43 AM

neuman got l.o.a signed to sony for their last lp...he's been working for sony/epic for a bit...

bottom line - the music was stale, the record tanked, and nothing became of it...

but,neuman kept his job.

god bless the jew fuck, even though he wrote me out of his book right after the "wake/funeral" gigs...

it goes deeper, but it's really nothing i want to expound on...

i move FORWARD.
