Muslim hardcore

Just heard of it today... apparently it's called taqwacore. Found a clip from an upcoming documentary here: http://eyesteelfilm.com/taqwacore.html

Maybe I'm being judgmental, but looks to me like it's mostly a bunch of non-Muslim punk kids who adopted the religion as some sort of rebellion more than sincere Muslims or kids raised in a Muslim society who are into punk or hardcore.

Some more stuff to check out if you're interested... though it's all more "indie" than hardcore.

I'm a Muslim convert, and quite frankly... the book alot of these kids based their ideas off of gives a bad name to me and all the punks and hardcore kids I know that converted to Islam and take the religion serious. There's literally no difference between most of the characters in the book and any other punk or hardcore kid except they are Irani, Arab, or Pakistani for the most part and raised in Muslim families. They don't exactly qualify as having "taqwa" or piety in even the most liberal interpretation of the religion.

In fact, I just wrote a blog about how much this whole phenomenon pisses me off on my MySpace today. Maybe I should get some of my friends that were Hardliners together and start a Muslim hardcore band that's A) actually hardcore and B) actually Muslim and into their religion.

Vegan Reich, in all truth, is the original taqwacore band. Racetraitor would qualify as well since at least 2 of the members were Muslims and one was Bahai. Vegan Reich's last EP had an entire chapter of the Qur'an in Arabic and English on the back cover. Racetraitor had a song that had a few verses from the Qur'an being recited in the background.

I'm angry, and real. This Michael Muhammad Knight character is a turd, IMO and the kids that follow his ideas are morons.
