Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

so I quit...

defstarsteve - 6-4-2009 at 12:11 AM

the day job that is....
def-star is running well and I need to focus full attention to it and get back to my original expansion goals...

spending 60 hours a week doing the same basic things for someone else’s company that I do for my own is counterproductive, even if it does mean losing a steady paycheck...

gave them a 30 day last week
they found a new guy in 2 days,
spent the last 3 training him
took my last 50 mile train ride home to the beach

they begged me not to go, but it's just not worth it...
100 miles a day 3 hour commute round trip,
my pay ends up being less than I would make at McDonalds...

I know it's strange to quit a job when most people are having trouble finding work, (again sorry Monty)
but the guy who replaced me has been laid off for a while...
so I felt it was not fair for me to be pulling in 2 incomes while people are struggling just to find one...
spread the wealth...
spread the word...

def-star is back in full swing and we'll be working on building you a better a def-star every day...

so if you need the merch for your band, your company, your family reunion, little league team... pono shoot crew, let me know

we can do it, for a great price with amazing quailty and quick turn around... and don't forget your thorp family discounts...

THORP - 6-4-2009 at 12:18 AM

Def-star rocked his first official Thorp job with the new REACHING HAND shirts.

hardtone - 6-4-2009 at 12:35 AM

Awesome news, we need to order some new merch...

defstarsteve - 6-4-2009 at 12:36 AM

Yes we did, and thanks to Thorp and family for calling us up from the minor leagues to run with the big boys...
we hope that we can do a lot more

Do what makes you happy.

Six66Mike - 6-4-2009 at 04:40 AM

That's great news, definitely gotta do what makes you happy. I quit my job in December, working a 3 month contract now and moving in 1 month to Brisbane. During my time off I started up an online business for VPS & Webhosting, providing seedboxes to torrent users as well. It's turning a profit finally, not much but it's miles better than commiting back & forth to work. Commuting blows, 3 hours a day is roughly what I do but sadly it's only ~35km each way, far less than your overall distance lol.

Glad to hear def-star is back on track.

MikeFromInhuman - 6-4-2009 at 09:31 AM

Good for you Steve!

clevohardcore - 6-4-2009 at 09:32 AM

I want to start a band just so DEF STAR can do the merch. HAVE YOU HEARD MY 2 CORD PROGRESSION? IT FUCKING RULES!

Discipline - 6-4-2009 at 09:38 AM

Great news Steve.

BDx13 - 6-4-2009 at 10:42 AM

WOW, this is awesome news.
Glad to hear things are picking up for Def Star again.

Cutting all that commuting out should definitely improve quality of life - even if you do spen all that new-found free time behind your own press!

3rdDistrict - 6-4-2009 at 10:57 AM

awesome steve
consistently using and refering you!

random - 6-4-2009 at 11:12 AM

great news, steve.

tireironsaint - 6-4-2009 at 05:13 PM

Fantastic news, congratulations Steve!

CR83 - 6-4-2009 at 07:00 PM

Yo Steve, a friend of mine is getting to the point of needing shirts for his business. He will of course be sent your info. When time comes, you'll get the hook up.

barc0debaby - 6-4-2009 at 09:17 PM

Bad ass man. I've been telling the few bands I know that have their shit together of the quality of Def Star.

upyerbum - 6-4-2009 at 11:21 PM

Congratulations Steve, and best of luck, we all know how hard you bust your ass man.

DaveMoral - 6-5-2009 at 01:21 AM

Steve, I think you might officially be my gauge for the turnings of the economy. I believe Def Star was having trouble before the recession really hit... so maybe we can predict the upswing of the economy by how long it was between when you practically closed the doors on Def Star and when the bottom dropped out of the economy...

defstarsteve - 6-5-2009 at 01:45 AM

It's not just us
a lot of other small businesses are picking up while huge bullshit corporations are struggling
makes you wonder if we need those big companies or if we could get back to a time of mom and pop corner stores
that actually give back to their communities

Six66Mike - 6-5-2009 at 07:19 AM

I've started my own business :) Sick of working for other people and bullshit labour conditions.

XnMeX - 6-5-2009 at 04:06 PM

Good to hear man. Gotta feel good to be back attacking your own stuff at full force and not the 9-5 / "the man" version...

JawnDiablo - 6-5-2009 at 05:50 PM

Good for you Steve.
Glad to hear things are looking up.
It's better working for the man, when you are the man you're working for.
Best of luck to ya

Voodoobillyman - 6-6-2009 at 06:59 PM

This makes me happy inside
