How did you get into hardcore?

random - 6-20-2009 at 10:11 PM

Just curious, especially as someone who grew up on metal but has basically no interest in it these days (and years).

SS76 - 6-20-2009 at 10:22 PM

Metal first.

XHonusWagnerX - 6-20-2009 at 10:40 PM

I voted METAL THEN HARDCORE, but it was actually METAL THEN PUNK THEN HARDCORE

ShawnRefuse - 6-20-2009 at 11:03 PM

I was punk/hardcore, not into metal.

DaveMoral - 6-20-2009 at 11:22 PM

I liked Metallica and Megadeth first, but I wasn't an avid follower of them or metal by any means. And it took years before I got exposed to punk rock in any significant way. Then hardcore. Then I got into a more diverse array of metal.

metal then hardcore and then punk

barc0debaby - 6-21-2009 at 12:03 AM

same answer but was into van halen and motely crue before skateboarding...

so I guess that's metal, into hip hop, into punk, into hardcore

clevohardcore - 6-21-2009 at 01:24 AM

Man I have to say metal then hardcore but punk was in the middle. It was MOTLEY CRUE, METALLICA, type shit for a year or so in the mid-eighties, then I heard GBH, DRI and SUICIDAL and that was it. From there I dabbled in a little CURE, SMITHS, SUGARCUBES because I'm a dramatic bitch. That period sucked, but I was always that dude into hardcore. It was all for the pussy I tells ya. Mmmmmmm pussy.

I think that's why I have the a penchant for 7 SECONDS. The only way I could get through some of that shitty music. You know what band is awesome though that i forgot to mention. BOSS HOG and JSBX. Those bands rule.

My summation. METAL, PUNK, HARDCORE, dramabitch, HARDCORE(drama bitch).

i'm actually more along the lines of clevo, with a mix of steve and barcode. it was metal for me, then a mix of punk rock and skateboarding, then hardcore.

i was really curious just because of the big influence of metal on so much hardcore these days.

Six66Mike - 6-21-2009 at 02:31 AM

Heard some Pantera, Nofx & Slayer in the same day pretty much. Got into metal a bit from that and a lot of punk. Got a Victory cassette sampler with Warzone & Integrity on it. Then after 1-2 years of punk & metal saw Snapcase at Warped Tour & was hooked. Then proceeded to stock up on the Victory catalogue.

MyOwnWay - 6-21-2009 at 08:22 AM

Metal, Punk, Hardcore.

JawnDiablo - 6-21-2009 at 08:55 AM

was into metal, and some old punk bands like the misfits and sex pistols..
friends that were into skateboards and such turned me onto sick of it all and stuff.....and some creepy dust head turned me onto AF and Black Flag....
then I hears Sheer Terror and it was all downhill from there.....

Darth40 - 6-21-2009 at 01:27 PM

punk/ska/reggae then hardcore then psychobilly

necrobutcher - 6-21-2009 at 02:24 PM

For me it all started with punk and some oi.

Dave - 6-22-2009 at 12:52 AM

punk/hardcore, grew up skating in the late 80's, so i got to hear a ton of good shit from that.

never liked metal

JUICE MAYNE MSHC - 6-22-2009 at 02:45 AM

metal, then Biohazard lead me to Sick Of It All then that lead to everything else. Still hate punk.

MikeResist - 6-22-2009 at 07:41 AM

As a kid I started out with some punk, but I wasn't introduced to the majority of what I listen to until my sophomore year in high school in 2001. I started listening to lots of things I didn't know existed ie: Misfits, Black Flag, Minor Threat. I started going to a ton of local shows. The Ducky Boys, Street Dogs. Saw Blood For Blood at The Axis in Boston and still remains one of the best shows I've been to. Man, thank god for punk/hardcore.

Same here. Punishment on Headbanger's Ball in the early 90's was my intro.

Jason the Magnificent - 6-22-2009 at 09:28 AM

Grew up metal, listened to bands like Cro-Mags and DRI but had no idea they weren't metal and that there was an actual HC scene until 90ish.

Imagine the movie Rivers Edge and you have my friends and I until about 90-91.

upyerbum - 6-22-2009 at 10:39 AM

Oi/punk. I'm surrounded by hairies. :cul:

Exactly the same here.

CR83 - 6-22-2009 at 10:27 PM

KISS, Sabbath, Misfits, Samhain, Exploited, GBH, Deicide, Black Flag, Biohazard, SOIA and so on

BKT - 6-23-2009 at 09:48 AM

Started with metal as soon as I could appreciate what music was. Heard punk thought for the most part it was glam rock with no solos or disco. Then at summer camp some dude played me AF and Youth of Today and I shit my pants. The rest as they say is history.

MM.

tireironsaint - 6-23-2009 at 11:04 PM

I would definitely say I went from Punk and Oi to Hard Core. I'd also extend that to say that I pretty much went back after a while too. I still find more and more things that could be considered some form of Punk that I love, but every year there are fewer and fewer bands flying the HC flag that appeal to me at all.

I will say that when I was a little kid I was into some stuff that I guess could be considered Metal, but I would really say it was just Rock 'N Roll. Kiss was the first band I was really a fan of and the first album I ever had of my own (that wasn't a Disney soundtrack or a read-along book and record combo) was a Kiss record. I got into Alice Cooper and stuff like that too which lead me to The Stooges and from there it was a short trip to being a full on Punk freak.
