Project Natal

Youtube is blocked on my work computer, but I just watched a video on my cellphone. Goto Youtube & look up 'Project Natal' (Monty already did this because I heard about it on his podcast - www.GameMechanix.net)

Its the new technology that Microsoft is working on for the Xbox 360.

Its unbeleivable! They show a kid hold a real skateboard up for a couple of seconds (front and back) and then he waves his hand in front of the TV and it flips through a bunch of skateboards and he picks the one he just scanned and its got all the same graphics etc on it. Then he is standing on the floor (no wires, no special matt, nothing) and hes prentending to skateboard and its him on the TV skateboarding in the game.

They also show soccer, car racing (with a pit stop & someone chaning the tires), a fighting game, game show with voice recognition and a bunch of others).

They have a video chat between 2 friends talking about going to a prom. One girls says "I found the perfect dress for you" and a bunch of dresses show up on the TV. Then the girl picks on, drags it on to her body (all just by waving her hands in the air) on the screen and now its her wearing the dress, but shes still able to move and see how it looks from the side etc.

The biggest thing is some kind of 'game' where you interact with a character on the screen and have a conversation. The girl playing draws a picture on real paper and just passes it by the screen for a second and the character on the TV is holding the paper instantly. Shes looking into a pond and can see her reflection and when she waves her arms it moves the waterand she can try to grab a fish.

Pretty amazing stuff... sorry I cant post a link, but theres a bunch on YouTube.

weird. Reminds me of a line from Southland Tales "Scientists are saying the future is going to be alot more futuristic than originally predicted."
