thedog - 5-13-2005 at 10:54 PM

it seems like a few people on here are into oi, just wondering if anybody likes niblick henbane.
they are one of my favorite american oi bands?

what oi bands do you like?

forsaken - 5-13-2005 at 11:41 PM

I never got into any sort of OI or really old school punk, it was just one of those things I must have missed when I was growing up ... I started off with local punk bands, and bands like social distortion ... then went straight to hardcore.

I'd like the hear them though, if anyone can link me to a song.

jonnynewbreed - 5-14-2005 at 10:06 AM

Is everyone forgetting the TEMPLARS!!! They put out some great stuff and weren't just singing about fighting and drinking all the time.

This thread is right up my alley, I LUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURRVES me some Oi. I dig the Niblick as well as most of the old Headache Records line up : Wretched Ones, Headwound, and Those Unknown specifically. As for American stuff, I love The Bruisers (of course), Anti Heros, Templars, The Press, Bonecrusher (I wouldn't really call them straight up Oi, but I would call them fucking great), Main Street Saints, Ducky Boys (they've got a lot of other stuff in the mix, but definite Oi roots to my ears), The GC5 and Hudson Falcons both came from the Oi scene too, The Bodies, Workin' Stiffs, I'm glad somebody mentioned The Beltones (as I love that band, but nobody around here has ever heard of 'em), The Reducers SF (if you haven't heard them yet, you HAVE to go check them out RIGHT FUCKING NOW!), and plenty more that aren't rolling to mind at the moment. Of course I also dig the Brit classics that everybody knows, but a few faves are (old, pre-hippy) Oi Polloi, Oppressed, Cock Sparrer, The Business, Blitz, and such. I also really really love a lot of the crazy Oi outta Japan. I've got a bit of it that's amazing, bands with some kinda silly names that are fucking incredible like For Men, Sideburns, Crikey Crew, The Hawks, L.R.F. and more. Anyone interested should hunt down a compilation called Burst Out : West Japanese Skinheads, it was put out on Helen Of Oi records and is the best collection of Japanese Oi I've seen yet. There's also a lot of cartoony, spiky drunk Oi bands from Japan that are good in another way, bands like Tom And Boot Boys, The Discocks, Spiky Joys and many many others. There's a great comp of that stuff called Follow No Leaders, but I'm not sure who released that and I don't have it on me to check out right now. Germany has a few really good ones too, I'm sure everybody knows Oxymoron, but I would also recommend Pobel & Gesocks, Beck's Pistols, and Stage Bottles.
