ammunition shortage

Those of you that shoot handguns. Are you having a hard time finding ammo? I had quite a bit but am now in search of more as I plan on target shooting. Everyone is out of 40 caliber. And when I did find some in DUNHAMS SPORTING GOODS it was $90 for 250. What the fuck is going on?

Ammo is getting pretty hard to find all over. The price of materials (brass, lead. powder, etc) has gone up a bit in the past year or so but a lot of it seems to be panic over Obama being elected into office. People seem to be worried about new potential legislation and/or restrictions pertaining to ammo and guns.

yes,I have a hard time finding ammo for my Ruger LCP .380 pocket pistol. good thing I don't shoot it much. The people at the gun shops tell me Obama is the #1 problem, all the talk of banning semi auto weapons.

That and from what I read was the military and all police departments are stepping up usage for training and actual usage. Most Law Enforcement departments are growing and more training is needed so they have first dibs from ammo companies. This coupled with the Obama Presidency makes for the shortage. Not sure I buy it, but whatever. I think they are preparing for something huge like an economic disaster or something and they do not want the civilians to have a huge cache of ammo to revolt or protect themselves.

Apparently when Obama took office he restricted the sale of spent military brass to private companies, which created a shortage on the market. It was repealed shortly after and is taking time to readjust. I need to confirm this story though.

I have a friend who sells to places like Bass Pro and Cabella's for Remington. He said it was because of Bush...sort of. My friend is a giant republican too. He said the US was so unhappy with Bush he knew a democrat was going to get voted in and gun ownership laws were going to bet tough. This caused people to stock up about two years ago and the industry hasn't recovered from the demand.

^^^^^^^^ this may be so and since you know someone on the inside well I'm sure he's right, but I don't get that. I remember when that was going down in 05 and 06. That's when I bought my gun and everyone was talking about that. I had no problems getting/finding ammo for a decent price until literally now. CNN had a story about it around march and I thought it can't be that bad, but today I see it really is. Every store in my county is almost out of 40 cal ammo. That's DICKS, DUNHAMS, GANDER MOUNTAIN. I am going to a range tomorrow or tuesday so I am going ask what they personally think. The thing is I see plenty of 9mm and 45 cal ammo, but the prices are jacked up really high. I paid $32 for a pack of 50 winchester today. Normally they were $19.
