Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

bands you missed the chance to see?

Mark Lind - 10-9-2009 at 02:29 PM

Not sure if anyone else posted this yet.

I guess the biggest boat I missed was Joe Strummer. I passed on seeing him live twice and then he kicked the bucket. In fact I think Sinners & Saints was supposed to play and we either canceled or got bumped so I skipped it.

I worked shows for Cocksparrer and At the Drive In and didn't watch either set. I'm not losing any sleep over that though.

Ramallah... They were playing in some bumfuck Maine town 3 hours away and I was too lazy / wasn't 100% sure they were going to play since they had missed a show or 2 before this one but sure enough, they played it and I missed it. Dirty Water I missed out of laziness / couldn't find anyone that wanted to go, and it was in Rye NH which was about 1/2 hour from me. I had also figured they would probably be playing alot of shows, BOY was I wrong! Fuck.

necrobutcher - 10-9-2009 at 02:54 PM

The big one for me is Blood For Blood. They were just blowing up when I drifted away from going to shows and were about done when I started going a lot again.

I still wish I could have seen Dropkick Murphys when McColgan was still singing for them.

In the space of one month I missed Easy Action and Negative Approach this year. EA was the day I left for Ireland, and NA was a few weeks later and I completely forgot about it. Still pisses me off.

I missed Sinners & Saints when they played @ some hall @ Temple University with One Line drawing or somethin ,,,if it was even the S&S I thinks it was.
Woulda liked to see Samhain on that tour with Danzig when they did the reunion.
I slept on seeing DKM until this year and wish I had seen them when they were...I dunno doing the stuff I liked better.
Shoulda went to see the Serial Killers when I was a kid
Wish I saw the Ramones when they played the Tower back in high school.
Wish i saw the Sex Pistols on that one reunion tour.
Missed Madball and Breakdown playing this little shithole bar near the 69th street terminal in UD PA...but I just had a baby and was dodging some hoods back then.
wanted to go up to NYC when the Bad Brains played CBGB near the end.
was also going to see AF at CBs when that DVD was filmed...which i think was the week after sheer Terror played the funeral cause i saw the flyers up there..
Missed Blood for Blood.
Didn't drive to see Ramallah cause i read they were not showing up at shows they booked...
but whatever,i got to see some cool shit over the years

Lovage with Mike Patton. One of the only regrets I have.

Ramones

I was between the age of 10-12, somewhere around there. Ramones were playing at The Hideaway in St. Catharines and I wanted to go. My uncle said he'd take me, I think my dad was gonna go too. They told me to phone & see if they had tickets still.

So I call the club in the afternoon and he says "umm how old are you, this is a licensed show" and I told him my age. "Sorry kid you're too young, you can't come in".

My only chance to see Ramones and I was too young. :duh:

Oddly enough my stepson just turned 10 and on his birthday Slayer & Megadeth were playing in Brisbane, and he didn't want to go. Even his dad said he'd go but he had no interest in it, despite listening to punk and metal on his mp3 player. :ticking:

JELLO BIAFRA WITH THE MELVINS - I found out well after the show

BLACK FLAG (Rollins WM3 tour) - I found out the day after the show

STARS & STRIPES - My old band was doing something that day

RORSCHACH - It was last weekend in Boston, but it was my grandfathers birthday

RAMALLAH - I just never felt comfortable with going to a show in Brockton

I'm with ya. I did see them play there twice but I got the VIP standing area. I wouldn't want to be out in the crowd there. There's something weird about a room filled with 300 sweaty shirtless dudes that are trying to establish themselves in the pecking order that makes things seem unsafe.

BDx13 - 10-10-2009 at 11:24 AM

so what's this business w/ brockton?
i don't leave my house; i don't know these things.

JawnDiablo - 10-10-2009 at 04:02 PM

i been tryin to avoid sweaty shirtless pecking dudes too,....
just seems unhealthy

User, Mickey, probably knows more about it than I do. But he's a giant man and has nothing to fear there. Us little guys should be required to wear hockey equipment just to get in there.

I think it's called the Lion's Den or the Tiger's Den. Appropriately named.

MattyA - 10-10-2009 at 06:14 PM

Motorhead- was suppose to see them with Iron Maiden but got there late.
Bad Brains- was going to go but then my friends didn't want to and I did not want to go by myself.
Dropkicks- with Mike as the singer, didn't get into them until after he left.

Discipline - 10-10-2009 at 07:22 PM

Another one I missed was Sheer Terror. I bought a ticket to see the Misfits with Graves back in 97-98. Only reason I even bought a ticket was because Sheer Terror was listed as one of the two opening bands. Got there, got inside, and no Sheer Terror. I got different reasons from staff and bands as to why they weren't there, but I think it was around the time ST broke up. Needless to say, I left the show and went to a bar and got blitzed out of my mind.

JawnDiablo - 10-10-2009 at 07:42 PM

Most memorable show ever for me was the last Sheer Terror show at CBGB.
Wish I had gotten tickets for the night before as well....but i woulda ended up sleeping in my honda, and they dont sleep well.

I missed the chance to see one of my favorite band's F-Minus back in 01' I believe. They were playing in Boston while I was in college in Beverly, Ma. Unfortunately the day before the show I was heading back home to VT for the holidays so I never got to see them and never will.
