Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

that east coast of oi fest 2010....

gavin - 10-10-2009 at 03:21 AM

got moved to philly
starland ballroom

BDx13 - 10-10-2009 at 07:26 AM

why is there always so much controversy around this show?
i don't know anything about it, just that every year, people are worked up about something.

random - 10-10-2009 at 08:23 AM

found a rumor on another site that evil conduct and west side boys are playing.

BD - the main issue i've heard about and seen over the years is that this is one of the few shows where there's always a large presence of white power types who don't exactly hide their opinions. the promoter gets a lot of shit about other things, too, but the main source of controversy is the yearly expectation of tons of fights.

Craig Downtown - 10-10-2009 at 09:00 AM

Hello gang....

Yep. Show was moved to Philly!

Controversy will ALWAYS be a part of this festival. Let's face it....It's an Oi! Show. It brings skins out from all over the world. Just the word "skinhead" freaks most folks out...doesn't it?!? the key here is EDUCATION.

The "nay-sayers" said this show wouldn't last the first five minutes of the first one back in 06!! They said there'd be fights everywhere.....They said there'd be violence. There was not. Ever.

Guess what...."THEY" were wrong. Three years strong, and NO VIOLENCE! If you wanna refer to the "bottle throwing" incident of 08 , you can. IT was not Politcally or racially stimulated. It was two drunk girls.....Someone got hit with one of them, and then a few more folks got involved in throwing them around. It was squashed as soon as it happened. (Not by the club security I must add). ZThis is one of the MANY reasons we have changed venues. ALSO due to the fact that the club did not allow re-entry and held everyone hostage for 12 hours a day....

Those who attend each year have an understanding with each other that this is a CONCERT...A place where you are not going to see all of these bands together in the US anywhere else....Of COURSE...there will be "drama makers" on the web.....That's the sick world we live in....

The East Coast Oi! Fest is NOT about politics.....It's NOT about being politically correct.....It's not about our government....or you agreement or disagreement with it's policies......It;s about brotherhood in a subculture......about gettign together and re-uniting with old freinds and making new ones...It;s for the working class...like-minded individuals......Not this group or that group....We've proved it time and time again....

I welcome and questions/comments/concerns...

JawnDiablo - 10-10-2009 at 11:21 AM

joey - 10-10-2009 at 12:49 PM

why the move to philly?

Craig Downtown - 10-10-2009 at 12:53 PM

Easier to get to by Plane, Train, and automobile.....

Better location all the way around...

Bigger venue....
better security
club re-entry
more hotels...

most folks never even heard of Poughkeepsie...

All questions/comments/concerns welcome at dtsrip2@aol.com cheers C.

Thanks, but once I'm as broke as an Ethiopian is hungry.

random - 10-10-2009 at 06:21 PM

so, i'm actually tempted to come back to the US for this show given the line-up keeps getting better... and craig, can you confirm this rumor about evil conduct (cause taht would be awesome)? but about what you said here...

so, this is a straight up fucking lie, and i was standing right beside that when it went off (and a lot closer than you or damn near anyone else). oxblood played the version of "street fight" by skrewdriver that had the WP lyrics, and a handful of white power guys and girls sang along real loud and sieg-heiled along with it. lots of broken glass and a few punches thrown. it was absolutely politically/racially stimulated, and it was clear from the two sides. it wasn't squashed right away, and the allentown police department came in wearing riot gear. show ended before 4 skins played. i was one of those mature individuals who helped the club staff clean up the mess.

seriously, craig, i appreciate the effort you put in year after year, especially given all the bullshit, but be honest about what happened. lots of beer, lots of glass bottles, no re-entry, and not taking a strong stance against the extreme politics from the outset led to what happened, and you know it like everyone else. and i'm not saying that you shouldn't let WP skins into the show... just that there shouldn't be any pro-nazi or anti-nazi shit allowed in, be it an anti-swazi t-shirt, a landser shirt, or a swazi tat on the back of someone's head. cover up the political shit and wear a non-political shirt, and things run much smoother.

and next year's line-up is fucking killer. if i drop the cash to fly in, i hope one of you philly people will put me up for the weekend.

Craig Downtown - 10-10-2009 at 06:44 PM

Yes, I am fully aware that Oxblood did SD. What I wasn't aware of, is why the bottles started flying....Yours is the FIRST comment I've seen with regards to anything being politically stimulated. As stated earlier, if the club security had done what we paid them to do, things would have been taken care of proplery and swiftly. It is CERTAINLY not an objective of mine to "lie" about anything....Which I will not do. At the end of the day, you and I (and the majority of folks in attendance) can agree that it was still handled very well without escalation. The 4-Skins were still able to play, which took MAJOR persuation towards the douche bag club owner.

It is certainly our "goal" to not allow "group" affiliation to be advertised at the fest....(see prior posts on myspace and other sites for that assurance.) However, having it on the skin as a tattoo, I cannot stop, but yes, it can be advised to cover it up. This is just one more reason we are flagging that club.

As far as RE-ENTRY....it WILL be allowed at the Starlight Ballroom.. This was a MAJOR factor that had to be taken care of before we agreed to terms with this venue!!

Any other questions / concerns / comments are very welcome!! I cal also be reached via email at dtsrip2@aol.com Cheers! Craig

Jason the Magnificent - 10-11-2009 at 08:06 AM

LOL dude got caught!

Craig Downtown - 10-11-2009 at 08:14 AM

Oh please. Stop the drama Jason.

Vanilla Gorilla - 10-11-2009 at 09:05 AM

I may try to go to this. If i do i am gonna need to meet up with any of you that may be in attendance, and some advice from local people on where to get a hotel, etc.

Craig Downtown - 10-11-2009 at 09:07 AM

I will be getting hotel info up on the website within the next few weeks...there's a KILLER restaurant/bar right around the corner....Spaghetti Warehouse.....Cheap eats...but tasty! There's a couple nice hotels like 5 blocks down the street.....I will be looking into a few rental propertys as well.....I need a few weeks though!!

THORP - 10-11-2009 at 11:08 AM

So that's what counts for drama these days?

Craig Downtown - 10-11-2009 at 12:13 PM

Calling someone a "liar" is pretty damn near it.

Jason the Magnificent - 10-11-2009 at 12:16 PM

Ok, I apologize and will suspend disbelief that it's not an attempt at spin and that a year later a random show goer knows more about what happened than its promoter....even with all the info and gossip available regularly on the net on a daily basis.

Craig Downtown - 10-11-2009 at 12:20 PM

I do know the activities fo that evening....Sometimes the promoter def. IS the last to realize WHY things happened.....With 50 bands performing, hospitality to care for, being 100 places at once..and such....yeah. I'd say I was a bit busy at the time it went on..When running a show of this magnitude, yeah. Sometimes you really don't get the time you would like to stop and watch....No spin.

JawnDiablo - 10-11-2009 at 01:05 PM

I'm thinkin I might wanna go to this, but damn an all day thing would kill me

Craig Downtown - 10-11-2009 at 01:07 PM

Don't worry old man!! HAHAHA!! (I'm right there with ya!! HAHAHAA!) Re-Entry is allowed, so you can go out and take a nap if ya like!!!

ANTI HEROES were so good

Craig Downtown - 10-20-2009 at 07:22 PM

Here's antoher one!!

random - 10-20-2009 at 07:25 PM

for the record, guns on the run are terrible, and joe coffee would've been better in that sopt (and several others).

gavin - 10-20-2009 at 07:40 PM

requests from who?
there's a bunch of "requests" for joe coffee on this board alone
while i like some of the bands on the show, joe coffee was the selling point to me and thought it was cool that you booked them on this show and were throwing a little something different into the mix
esp. being that paul has been involved in all this crap for as long as he has

Mark Lind - 10-20-2009 at 07:42 PM

I attended several of the Beer Olympics in Atlanta and there was never an issue at all. The closest there came to any drama was when our dipshit old guitar player got caught drinking under age and almost got us tossed out after we drove all the way to Atlanta from Boston. The only reason he's still alive is because they let him play and then kicked his fat ass out again immediately after out set.

Anyway.... point being. It is possible to have a good oi show without any drama. Hopefully this works out.

It really would take an appearance by the Anti-Heros to get me out of the house to see an oi show at this point. Maybe Oxymoron. Maybe Those Unknown. If the show was local. I'd travel for the Anti-Heros.

Craig Downtown - 10-20-2009 at 07:45 PM

Anti-Heros is out.... As they put it...the band is "dead"...We discussed it...

I'm not convinced yet. I think they will be back again one day. Like Frosty the Snowman..... Mark Noah the Oi-man.

Craig Downtown - 10-20-2009 at 07:54 PM

Would be very nice.....Magee will be at the fest playing with C84....

about JC, i love how "they deserve more than a 20 minute set" means "so, I bumped them entirely so they didn't have to feel bad after playing a 20 minute set."

about GOTR, they're seriously bad. but i understand that dumbass punk rock kids will pay $35 of mommy and daddy's cash to see them, so it makes sense to have them on the bill. i get that, and totally understand and appreciate the perspective of a promoter dropping more cash than i can imagine to host this fest.

since they're not on the flyer now, i guess pist 'n broke got dropped, too. flyer design is weird to me, since i expect "biggest" acts to be most visible.a "youthful offenders" reunion (since they broke up years ago, and i haven't heard about them getting back together) should be a big deal... their vulture rock album was one of the more memorable of the late 90s US oi scene. wretched ones are barely noticeable, while tradesmen (who?) are near the top... but anyone who's ever seen the wretched ones play would be thrilled to see them again. seriously, who are the tradesmen? is this a band i shouldn't be missing but have so far?

and i'm with gavin on the respect thing towards paul. i don't think of joe coffee as being punk, since they have a wider range of influences and instruments in their music, so maybe they don't belong. but if roger miret felt like taking five minutes to shit into his hand onstage, i think they guy has put in enough dues to get a chance. i may not like it, but i'd rather give that guy a chance to do something new than see some lousy "up-and-comer" that should have hung it up like the coat-hanger abortion his mom should've gone through with.

BD, what's with the blank mesages? i want scene gossip!!! hahaha

barc0debaby - 10-20-2009 at 09:17 PM

I don't think any rational argument can be made for dropping Joe Coffee.

Alot of those bands just have some awful turdpunk names.

JawnDiablo - 10-20-2009 at 09:29 PM

while at my friends show on saturday a bunch of us were sitting around getting bombed, surprise, but my boy Volpe is like "yo Quinn when's Joe Coffee comin round again?"...some other dude is like "oh they're on that Oi Fest thing, it got moved to Philly"...I had to be the game killer and break the bad news to these guys.

JC is great, and for the life of me, I just can't understand why they are not huge. Everyone I play them to, and I have forced it on many, has ended up really diggin it. Not just the old Sheer Terror freaks, but even some old heads i know who aren't into the hardcore thing.

side note, Volpe's boy Frank was there and we were sure to remind him of the time he passed out on the stage at the Troc when they played years ago....he wil never live that one down...

first off, i want nothing to do with scene gossip.
i enjoy being one of the least informed and out of touch participants in the scene.

as for hte blank posting...

that was a great night.

first, the main show downstairs... all the kids cleared out after cky essentially leaving clutch to put on a private performance for me. THEN Joe Coffee upstairs afterward.

And as for that dude Frank...
it wasn't just that he passed out sitting up on the edge of the stage, but that Paul leaned on the guy with his foot like he was a monitor while he was passed out.

I took a bunch of pics that night. more on http://sequencer.com , link to gallery at the bottom of the page.

JawnDiablo - 10-20-2009 at 10:48 PM

jeez that was 7 years ago?
fuck where has the time gone?

REV.PAULIE - 10-21-2009 at 05:00 AM

Okay...

After emails, bulletin posts, feelings of disappoinment, and disparaging remarks (mostly on my end,I'll admit) - Craig called me,and we discussed the situation that grew between us.He had thought that I was just being a jerk that was pissed for being dropped, until he read my last post in the other thread. He didn't realize just how much the show does indeed mean to us,as a band,as we always end up getting overlooked for the latest "flavor".This is going to be a big event, and it felt like we were going to be ignored, yet again,as we normally are for "big events".Nevermind that we truly believe we'll go over much better on this bill than we would with the majority of what's being passed off for hardcore these days.

Not to mention that I've been a huge Cockney Rejects fan since I was at least 13 years old...!

He came to a few realizations, and apologized for making us feel slighted.I came to a few realizations, myself, and I hereby apologize for being a little pig-headed in my choice of words."Heat of battle",one might call it.

Bottom line - Craig invited us back to play the Oi! Fest, and we accepted.Joe Coffee will get it's fair shake for once. Both parties are looking forward to this show, and to seal the deal over a stiff drink.

Thank You.

Craig Downtown - 10-21-2009 at 06:43 AM

It's truly a pleasure to have you, Paulie. Apologies go out to JC fans....I'm glad we could work it all out....See you soon...Cheers C.

REV.PAULIE - 10-21-2009 at 06:59 AM

Note: I edited my posts concerning the debacle that was. There's no need to rehash old crap,or feed into any "drama".They come up blank, because I don't know how to delete them!

Craig Downtown - 10-21-2009 at 07:02 AM

You're a true gentleman. As did I.

BDx13 - 10-21-2009 at 09:05 AM

first off....wow.

nice to see business being handled properly.
stoked JC is back on the bill.
we (sgr) plan on having a table, but originally, only andy was going to go.
i will now be in full effect.

gavin - 10-21-2009 at 09:08 AM

duane can i stand at the table with you so i dont have to be too near people?
i have issues with crowds, and alot of other stuff

BDx13 - 10-21-2009 at 09:12 AM

yes. and i promise i won't make you shove stickers in everyone's hand as they walk by like i did to the poor people working our table during this is hardcore.

ill have to wait and see as we get closer to then.
i may get struck by lightning or a mack truck by then so i dont plan so far ahead....

JawnDiablo - 10-21-2009 at 09:50 AM

BD: any chance you got a photo of Paulie using Frank The Tank as a stage prop?
I'd love to have this for my collection of photos of drunken fool friends....

BDx13 - 10-21-2009 at 11:19 AM

i'll have to look and see.
they were shot on film, so i'll have to dig up the actual prints and i have no idea where they are.

I'm shocked to see a message board used as a stepping stone to resolution. I always thought they were the tool of the devil.

barc0debaby - 10-21-2009 at 04:14 PM

Thats the power of mystical power of the Thorp boards.
