With that being said, who is the biggest asshole you've ever met in music? Someone that didn't even fake to be nice or give a shit....

My choice has got to be Marky Ramone. That guy was probably the biggest douche nozzle I ever met. And it was very apparent because he was playing with Jerry Only who is about the nicest person I've ever met in music. Marky wanted $25 cash to be in a picture. He made people refer to him as Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Marky Ramone. Just a douche bag.

I can think of a few but the first one that springs to mind is Lemmy from Motorhead! i was a real young kid (not so long ago!haha) and my mum had taken me to see them with her and her boyfriend at the time (he was working for the band) as we walked past Lemmy, he grabbed my mums ass and tried to make her sit on his lap-just to remind you, she is walking along holding hands with her daughter, id say i was prob about 10 at the time! There was some argument after as he got really abusive cos she tried to walk away but i dont remember all that much!
Looking back now, its actually kinda funny, but at the time i thought what a horrible nasty man!

A certain guitarist for a band I released that was 50% of the reason I decided to stop doing a record label.

Was a complete and total pain in the ass throughout the entire project. Was always asking for asinine art changes to make sure some weird persons hand or face wasn't cropped out of live shots (because they were old friends or any other random excuse) most of the time making the layout seem awkward.

Was asked to cease and desist on making shirts after making one small batch (48) so the band could do it on their own (on fucking cafe press), when the couple bucks profit off merch was a major source of promotional money for ads and more promo materials. A chunk of that batch was given to the band so I didn't even cover my nut, much less make enough money to buy a $20 zine ad.

Due to my hyping of the CD the band realized they still had quite a bit of interest and had a reunion show (turning into several shows) and I wasn't even offered a floor to sleep on if I travelled halfway across the country to see them. I think I got a me +1 admittance into the show though. I didn't go.

Even after the bitter taste this guy left in my mouth from almost every dealing with him I still jumped at the chance to deal with nonsense again when they planned to record new material...because I loved the band. I began promoting the new material by said band only to find out they went to another label telling him they weren't doing anything new with me. I know the other label and the guy was upset the band did this because he definitely was not the toe stepping type...I told him there were no hard feelings and wished him luck and gave him a couple warnings of possible pitfalls with the guy. Basically glad he saved me a headache.

3ish months later I asked him if there was any progress on the release and he basically was at wits end with this band member same as me having all the same problems. A couple months later and after spending some time and money promoting the release the band split back up.

Him couple with the fact that having a smaller hardcore label in this current digital climate is a waste of time and money...I decided to release a friends band CD as NGS10 and call it a nice round even number and a day.

Marky Ramone did sign something that I asked him to sign at a "Misfits" show, but he was obviously not happy about doing it. He was also really rude about answering any questions so I concur with Mark that Marky is an asshole! I knew the guy doing merch at the show and he said that Jerry & Dez loved meeting fans, but Marky was an asshole. He used to walk around the club looking for old drum heads and then sign them and sell them at the merch booth for $50. He also sold a signed drumstick (yes 1 stick) for $25.

Ray Davies from The Kinks was pretty rude when I met him at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and asked for his autograph.

Dave Mustain came to the Newbury Comics warehouse on a promo tour (I'm not sure why) when I worked there and he wasnt a jerk, but he wasnt thrilled about being there and taking pictures with people that were mostly getting pictures just to laugh at with their friends. I had him sign some vinyl & a Megadeth platinum record award that a friend had and he was nice when talking to me about those things.

Keith Morris was kind of a jerk when I met him on the Circle Jerks 10th anniversary tour, but I think he may have just been annoyed by my question about Black Flag.

Craig Ahead was just really short with me the 2-3 times I tried to talk to him. He did take a picture with me when I asked, but he wasnt really friendly.

Hes not in music, but I met Brutis Beefcake the wrestler at a comic/toy/pop culture show and he had no-one around his table at all. I just said hello and that I liked the show he was on at the time (Hulk Hogans Celebrity Wrestling) and he said "yeah, thanks" and turned around to face the wall.

Nicest people in music that I've met...

Eric Carr from Kiss... He was at a Kiss convention in 1989 and he was signing autographs in a totall unorganized way, there was no line, it was just him behind a table & a mob of people. He signed 3-4 things for me and talked for a couple of minutes while he signed other peoples stuff. I bet Gene Simmons was pissed that Eric was giving away anything for free!!

Troy Mowat from 7 Seconds... I met him in the early 1990's at a show in Providence at Club Baby Head. It was an 18+ show and lots of kids (myself included) were not let in because we were underage. Troy came over to ask why we were all outside and when he found out he went in the club and told them to let us all in and take our money or he was going to bring us in one at a time as his guest if he had to. Needless to say, we all go in the show!

Blood for Blood (the whole band) were all really nice when I was with them & Slapshot on tour. I was really nervous because it was the first time I was on a tour, first time in Europe and I didnt really know any of the people except for Mark McKay. I guess I had an image about what BFB would be like and they were pretty much the exact opposit. All pretty mellow easy going friendly guys.

Oderus Urungus, Beefcake the Mighty & Slymenstra Hymen from Gwar... I met them at an autograph signing at a Newbury Comics and they were nice. It was when I worked at the warehouse and I actually skipped out of work early and went with the delivery guy to the store. Because the driver went to the next delivery I had no ride back to the city and I actually got to ride back with the 3 of them and was put on the guest list for the show at Venus DeMilo that night.

The first time I met Lars Fredericksen he was a raging asshole to me. But he at least realized he was being a dick and apologized for it. And ever since he's been really nice.

The singer from Deftones was also a huge asshole. I met him at the Warped Tour about 10 years ago and he acted like he was John Lennon.

The rapper from the Transplants was an asshole to me and to Doug from Ducky Boys on separate occasions.

Other nice people in music that deserve mention:

1. Dicky Barrett - couldn't be a nicer guy.

2. Roger Miret - he hosted Ducky Boys at CB's with the Disasters. You would have thought we were spending Thanksgiving with him or something. He kept approaching us asking if we were ok or if we needed anything etc. This guy is pretty much punk rock royalty and he treats everybody else as if he's just another schmoe. Awesome dude.

3. Tim Armstrong - we played with The Distillers in LA for a few shows when they were just starting up. Tim was their roadie. He carried all their gear and set it all up and stuff for them. And he acted like he was just a roadie. Super nice guy. I've met him a handful of times since and he's always remembered me.... name included and all which you would expect him to forget where he meets so many people.

4. Jimmy Gestapo - after meeting him for 5 minutes I felt like I had known him my whole life.

5. John Doe - dude from X.... The Unloved played with his solo band. He came into the club and introduced himself like we didn't know who he was. Then he remembered all of our names for the rest of the night and was offering us the use of his gear and stuff. It was pretty funny.

6. Ken Casey - obviously

7. Sylvain Sylvain - I'm not a huge NY Dolls fan or anything but we played with their reunited line-up a few years ago and he struck up a conversation with us like he was just another dude in another band.

8. Travis Barker - I brought my little brother to see Blink 182 when he was about 13. Chad from Newfound Glory (another wicked nice guy) brought us back stage because he was friendly with the BFB guys. Anyway, Patrick got to meet each of the Blink guys and have his picture taken with them. Chad even brought him up on stage to watch the Blink set from up there. It was a 13 year old's dream. But Tom and Mark were assholes. They acted wicked put out to even say hi to the kid. Then Travis was wicked friendly to him. He shook his hand, talked to him, posed for pictures and even introduced himself to me and struck up a conversation just because I was the little kids' brother. If I was 13 and met a guy like that then it would have made my day. He was really nice.

Tim Armstrong came into a bar i kinda worked in every now and then and was super nice, bought us drinks and took no offence when i asked him if he gets his eyebrows waxed cos it looked that way!haha
Jimmy G has always been the nicest dude over the years, i forst met him when he played some fest in London and i ended up getting completely wasted with him and he was so cool to everyone we were with.
Have seen him many times since then in NY at mutual friends birthdays and shows n stuff and again, always acts the same, always makes a big effort.

Have an AWESOME childhood memory of meeting Lita Ford at a local Strawberies Music store... Met her and she was REALLY nice, I had to be under 10 at the time (I think I was 8). She gave me a hug and a kiss on the cheek! I had her sign my Nintendo Power jacket and my Vision Sakte Board T-Shirt (neither of which I still have, unfortunatly) which she signed and put "XOXOXO" on as well. If I could have gotten a bonner at the time I would have had one. lol

There's been very few complete arseholes from bigger bands that I've met. GC5 comes to mind :tumble:

Most people have been really cool and chilled. I'd say Nomeansno/Hansons guys were the nicest of all the bigger bands we played with.

have to agree on Jimmy Gestapo too.
back in 2001, we went to his tattoo shop to hang out on our first day in NYC and ended up there every night for the rest of the week.
took us out drinking a couple times too and we actually met Thorp's very own Reverend Paul Bearer in this one bar where the scene with the transvestite from Crocodile Dundee was shot!

I know this was all originally meant to be about assholes in music but, another awesome dude is Mackie Jayson, have met him at several stages in his career with whatever band he was in at the time and he is a solid dude and super fun too. And above being in Cro-Mags, Bad Brains, Madball, The Icemen and errrm Fun Lovin Criminals...he drummed at one point for these 2....haha

I've never really met anyone who was really an asshole to me,except maybe David Allan Coe...but his son told me that he just wasn't feeling well that night...whatever.

As far as nice people go....Jimmy G is top notch.The first time I met him he treated me like I was his best friend for years.
Vinny Stigma is also a great guy.When AF played one night,the power at the club got knocked out by a storm...so Vinny just hung out with me and my friends buying us beers and talking about wrestling....and that dude can talk...haha.
Buddah from Blood for blood was really nice too....but Rob Lind wouldn't stop pacing back and forth long enough to be able to speak to him.
Paul Bearer,from what I can remember was a sweet heart...haha....I was fucking wasted that night.This was when ST was touring with Napalm Death.
Bruce Kulick from Kiss was a super nice guy.
Bobby Blitz from OverKill played football with me and a few friends.
Dimebag Darrell was super friendly....but Phil Anselmo was a dick until my buddy offered him a joint,and then he was our best pal.
Geoff Gavin from the Bad Vibes is a nice guy as well....if you can believe that...haha.
Ice T took the time to shake my hand at a body count show even though he was being escorted around the club by 2 huge goons.
Hank Williams III....real cool dude.

I've been in situations where I had the opportinity to meet people but in all honestly, I never really had much that I thought was worth talking about. I mean aside from, wow I dig your music or some shit. Hell I saw Gavin the other night and just didn't have anything to talk about . Then again I have ackward social issues so I guess it is what it is.
Met Paul Bearer back in the winter and he was the nicest guy. In fact I was touched by a kind gesture on his part.
I met stigma and Mike Gallo before. Both real nice dudes.
Met Jimmy G in the Khyber a few years ago and he was also very cool.
Theres been times where i was sitting at the bar in little dives where the band is hanging out before the show and I just never wanted to walk up and bother them. I was sitting at the North star one night and Freddy madball and Mitts are sitting 2 stools down from me having dinner. I just didn't have anything to say i guess....

Surprisingly, Glen Benton of Deicide is as nice as they come. Well, in 1992 he was. I was in Lawrence, KS and he got off the bus prior to the show and asked if people had weed. They did so he hung out but we very cool.

Mark Linskey is one of the nicest fucking guys you'll ever meet.

All the guys from Flatfoot 56 (including who I think is their dad/manager) were super nice. I thought I showed up late for a show (hour after doors open) at a bar, and I was one of about 3 people along with them.

Street Dogs - They played a show where I used to live, and about 15 people showed up. Afterwards, one of them was one the phone making some rude comments about the city and they people on the phone, and a lovely female pointed out he was acting like a total dick to those of us who actually did come out and support his band. He got mad and stormed off. Mike McColgan came over to see what happened, was super nice, and made the guy come over an apologize for being a dick.

Shutdown - Mark might be the friendliest and most humble guy I've ever met.

Shadows Fall played at a venue a buddy of mine used to help out at. They came of as rock stars.

Cannibal Corpse played the same place. The band, especially George Fisher, we're awesome but their sound guy was a cocksucker.

Another good person i had the chance to meet many times before he passed was Joe Strummer, always warm and welcoming, really lovely dude.

I think it's a bit funny that Tim Armstrong is showing up in some folks "praiseworthy" list, he is right up there with his band mate Lars as one of the biggest douchebags I've ever had the displeasure of doing business with. The only member of that band that struck me as genuine or nice at all was Matt Freeman. My runners up for rock star attitude would be the entire band known as SNFU, but there have been plenty of other band members who have shown me shittiness before too.

On the flip side, I've met or dealt with lots of folks who impressed me with how nice they were to a complete stranger such as myself, who has a tendency to come off as an opinionated prick from time to time. The one and only time I got to see Sheer Terror, I briefly talked to Paul and he was as nice and friendly as they come. As I recall, there were some guys in a band called Razor Wire or something like that who had recently moved to the area and knew Paul already. One of those guys started talking shit about the hoodie I was wearing which had something about straight edge on it and Paul stepped in saying that I wasn't one of "those kind" of straight edge kids since I had been up front singing along to every song he had just played.

The Bouncing Souls were incredibly nice guys when I was one of a group of people who put on a show for them many years ago. At this point I can't really get into their music at all, but I still have several of their records that I keep based just on the fact that they were such great guys.

I've had some other great experiences meeting faces in the scene over the years, but after the rather rough week I've had, I'm having trouble bringing much of those to mind at the moment.

Oh yeah, Dave Smalley was ridiculously nice and friendly the one time I got to talk to him. He was almost cheesy with his positive attitude, but somehow made it feel very genuine. At the time I was going by the nickname Nothin' which was shortened from Jon Nothin' since my full first name is Jonathan. As I recall, he signed something for me "to Nothin', you're really something" or something similar to that anyway. It seems corny now, but he seemed concerned that the name was some sort of reflection of self loathing or something.

I have a great story about meeting the guys from Sick Of It All back when they toured for Blood, Sweat, And No Tears, but I think I've already told that on here a time or two before.

I talked with Vinnie Stigma for a half hour about guitars. What they recorded with over the years, how he learned and other shit. Dude was way cool. Kept bringing me beer.

The dude from NITZER EBB fell on the table in front of me and spit out his acid on it. Dude was smashed. Dave Gahan wanted to kick our ass cause he thought we did something to him and then he prceeded to take the singer carried him to the hospital down the street. Fuck that 4 foot 5 bitch. DM is a good band though. Don't give a shit.

Don Foose from SPUDMONSTERS is always nice.

Ezec was always cool to hang with.

Never hung out with Jimmy G outside of a show but he is always great to talk too before or afters shows.

Toby from H2o was kind of a dick, but that was at the warped tour so he probably thought I was some douchbag anyway. Met his wife a couple times and she was way awesome to talk too. Super nice. Rusty was really cool too.

Lou and Pete SOIA way fucking cool. Super nice. Pete even remembered me from a earlier meeting at a previous show. Didn't let him know but I was floored.

Waddie was cool, but hammered drunk so whatever.

GBH the entire band for the 1994 tour they did, way nice.

Met a black chick who was from THE BOMB GANG GIRLS. Basically a backup singer of MY LIFE WITH THE THRILL KILL KULT. Then the fag signer from MLWTTKK canned us from hanging out with her. Dude is a flaming fag and huge fucking druggie.

Dwid is always cool. Alot of people hate the dude but he has always been nothing but cool to me.

Chubby really does like to talk shit. Its funny, he is every bit what you think he is.

casey r -Di's - we ( lost gen) where on tour with uk subs back in 90 and they used all our gear, so just the way things worked the best was for us to go on right before them. and i guess we where " nobodys" and they where so " big" out there they had such a attitude about " opening " up for us..lol was so silly. we could care less when we went on other than have to tear down the drum kit.I never cared where my band went on in order of shows.

on better note. i remeber when we payed with GBH and the drummer came up to me and said "hey. might as well use my kit so you dont even have to set yours up in front of it and then have to take it down.. this is rented kit . beat it to shit..lol"....we partied hard with those guys. they dedicated drug party 926 to us. ahh the good ole days. that was at the club 'streets' in ny state somwhere for anyone who remebers that place. :cool:

and like other said. stigma is so cool and has time for most anyone, love peopel like that.
mark lind himself was one of the cooliest peopel ive met in my years of playing music.

but like mark l said. I find that most musicans are not the the best of poeople. too much ego. i tend to hang around more with 9-5 working stiffs in real life.
